Which L322?

Hi from Scotland.
I am looking to buy a Range rover but am not sure which one is best for my requirements?
I have briefly owned a 3.0 TD6 but I found it quite vocal compared to the same engine in an X5?,
but am comfortable with these as I come from a BMW background and know my way around the engine.
I am after a later facelift TD6 or early pre march 06 TDV8 as I am not willing to fork out £500 for roadtax.
Is their even such a thing as a pre March 06 TDV8 and are they as reliable engine wise as the TD6 and are they as economical as the TD6 or is that just a myth?
Thanks in advance and sorry for all the quedtions in my first post

Welcome, you can not buy a cheaper tax bracket TDV8 as they were released as an 07MY

You can buy TD6's in both tax brackets though Confused The later 06MY TD6 Vogue & Vogue SE have more soundproofing than the earlier models and yes you can buy a "55"reg 06MY registered before 03-06 Thumbs Up

As long as its registered before the 23rd of march 2006 you will pay the lower road tax. As Craig says, the TDV8 was not released until later in the year... Thumbs Up Previously..

You can check the VEL rate using this :

I was in the same boat and wanted an early TDV8. But with only travelling less than 5k miles a year, there was no way on earth I was paying £500 in road tax - it's just wrong !

I bought a '55 reg '06 MY AJV8 in the lower tax rate and 20mpg - more than happy with it.

It depends on your mileage, I guess. There's an unfair amount of negative press ref the TD6 - I was more than happy with mine.

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

I have a TD6, and when I bought it I really wondered if I should have gone for the V8 diesel - it was a close run thing even though then the v8 was some 50% more. What tipped the balance in favour of an early TD6 was the lower nominal depreciation of the older car. I thought it would be twice as much for the V8.

The TD6 is slow and noisy, but it's comparitively cheap to run. I am happy with it, but even after 3 1/2 years of ownership I still don't know if I made the right decision.

There was no way I would get a late model TD6 as by then you might as well spend a bit more for the V8 which is a much better car, and worth the extra tax.

If I was doing less than 5k a year I'd get the petrol.

I had a 53 plate TD6.
I really want a facelift.
What are the advantages other than looks.
My understanding is the late TD6s come with a mish mash of Jaguar and BMW parts
