Wind was coming from the west today, cycling the Bealach Na Ba would have been impossible as it would be a head wind

Today was a tough 52 miles with 3200 feet of elevation and it was colder than a cold thing on a cold day. Great fun going up the Glennifer Braes with the snow and ice on the roads, my back wheel spinning and no forward movement from the bike, it was almost a backward slow motion moment.

Avg Temperature: 31.8 °F... Min Temperature: 28.4 °F

Nice 34 mile route round the bottom of the Campsies today

You are really lucky to be getting weather like this in December. I take it you would not be so daft as to cycle when it is icy? Previously..

What I really meant was when the bad weather does eventually arrive I take it you will be off the roads for the duration of the crappy weather. You are lucky you have the garage to cycle in.
Since I broke my collarbone about 7 years ago I am really scared of bikes and slippy conditions. Yes I still offroad, but much gentler than I used to. It's hitting Tarmac that worries me and I wouldn't take the risk of going out when I know there is ice.

Most of my cycling is on main routes which are gritted so I shouldn't have too many problems with ice. The cold is a killer though, trying to gauge how many layers to wear and getting it right is a big problem, too many layers and the torso overheats yet the hands and feet can be frozen, not enough layers and you just freeze completely. I've more or less managed to sort out the feet and can more or less keep them at a reasonable temperature, the hands I'm still experimenting with and now have a large collection of different gloves

I don't want to stop cycling through the winter, it's been too much hard work getting to the level I'm at to throw it all away during the winter months. Turbo trainer is the last resort, I hate it with a passion but if needs must I guess I'll just have to get stuck in and do it.


As for cycling in the garage, I know it's big but it's not that big

Went to the velodrome this evening for my final accreditation so I am now licensed as a track rider
