i'm contemplating getting a td6 ffrr circa 2002/3 , but most i've seen within my price range have 100k plus miles on them....my question is how long do the gearboxs last [generally] before they need replacing... |

they can vary car to car but generally at least 150k. Less if used for heavy towing or heavy off roading. Theyre only about a grand recon anyway though.... |

thats a gear box every 20,200 miles...what do you do to them V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Nothing more that you would expect from a gearbox, one lasted about 20 miles.. |

We've had this conversation about your car in another post. 5 gearboxes in 100k must be some kind of international record and would suggest user error either that or you gearbox supplier is cack! Most of them must have been under some kind of warranty?? |

There is a lever which needs to be adjusted regularly.. otherwise early demise of the transmission is likely.

On a serious not who thinks that "using" the handbrake rather than just using "park" can help a gearbox live longer? |

always used park on my previous autos, except for when parked on a hill... |

Ditto. The concensus seems to be 100k miles upwards is when the faults traditionally start to appear. Allegedly the TD6 is more prone than the V8 (different box) but I've taken the precaution of having the gearbox flushed at every Inspection II on my V8 just in case.
