Can I Charge Phone Via USB Port 2010 MY

Hi all

Can I plug my Nokia Lumia 800 into the USB port using a micro USB cable to charge it whilst driving? Not wanting to access the phone via the touch screen, just charge it up?

Thanks

Carl

Have you tried it? .

If id done that I would know the answer. I haven't got the lead and didn't see much point buying one if it doesn't work anyway hence the question

Then why not just buy the 12v charger lead?

Carlos, the USB in the car has the same capabilities for charging as your USB on your PC. So, if it works to charge it on a PC it will work in the car Thumbs Up

It charged mine - however you need to make sure you have the correct cable, the early ones didn't have the charging ability (I had to buy an adapter....) Land Rover Addict

To be honest the USB spec allows for upto 500ma on most systems and setups so will charge some phones but be very very slow.

A griffin as above or Belkin single USB unit that provides 1amp would do the job grandly and i've found with my own one i can charge an iphone from 20% while using the satnav and streaming BT music in a Disco 4 in just over an hour Very Happy

Now if only they would make some nice Qi Charging matt areas in the new FF that would be even better... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

DMRR, do you mean early 2010 MY? Mine is a 2009 59 plate so would fall into that category if you do?

kingpleb, do you mean the standard cable in the standard USB port will provide a very slow charge and that charging from the 12V socket is better using the Griffin item? I dont have an I Phone so do i just plug a USB lead into that and my Nokia then charge away?

Apologies to all if these questions are dumb I havent had many cars with USB, the last being an X6 and i only ever used that for playing music because BMW had a docking cradle for my then Blackberry so that provided the charge, this is new to me as a result and the handbook makes no reference to phone charging from the USB port.

Sorry, Im saying anything you charge for a solo USB port that is built to spec or near to spec will charge at a much slower rate than a good USB Accessory socket charger.

The car cradle by BMW will be designed to supply more juice as standard for the phone to charge and is also cabled differently as well from what i recall of the wiring for the one in my FF(which isnt far removed from the BMW unit of new)

The cost of the adapters is nothing and once you plug it into the one in the centre cubby boxy and plug your USB lead in you can almost forget it and route the USB cable into the top of the cubby and then never have to go in there again Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
