Reverse from static sometimes not engaging

Hi Guys, I have an 02 Range Rover Vogue L322, about the past month it has sometimes had trouble engaging reverse. When I move the stick to R nothing happens sometimes. And sometimes I have to rev it to get it to engage. But again sometimes I am sitting in a car park for 10 mins before it engages.

The weird thing is sometimes you go out and it works all day no problem

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Also I took it to the RR Dealership when this started happening and they change oil in Gearbox amongst other things that really made no difference but they said Gearbox was 100%.

Any help or info on this would be great.

Cheers

Its most likely the linkage, have a search around on here, there is plenty of info on it..

Will need greasing and lubing up a bit and it should solve the problem Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hey Guys,

Had it to the dealers twice, they greased the linkage and sprayed it but did not work. So turned out it is a failure of the clutch in reverse gear, that is what they told me. Apparently common in a gearbox with over 60k on it. It is getting rebuilt now, super expensive but good warranty with the new parts and box. They told me they don't just replace one bit, everything gets replaced which is good, torque converter etc...

Also Daveo I am sure your mates is the same, It has to be that annoying but will let you guys know if this def sorts it, which it really should.

Cheers

I would hope so.

Should be good for a good few miles more now Thumbs Up

Was worth a shot With the linkage as for quite a lot of not engaging problems it seems to sort them out. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I had a very similar thing with mine (2003). All forward gears were OK but reverse would hang for a while then go in with a bang, it got to the stage where you had to really rev the engine to get any drive. It turned out to be a crack in the valve block that was releasing pressure on the reverse ports (or whatever!)
