Help Needed with weird noise

Hi Forum members, I need some help with to identify the source of a whinning "noise" coming from my RR at 70 mph. AT 65 mph and under full throttle there is no noise so am discounting anything from the engine. It may be something loose due to windage but I'm dammed if I can see anything. It appears to come from underneath the dashboard. It's hard to describe but the only thing I've heard like it was when the windscreen seal lifted up and it was vibrating. I have obvioulsy checked that and it's not that this time.

Also thought wheel or drive shaft bearing but as it only appears at 70mph and above and no change going round corners don't think its them.

Have any of you heard that noise behind the dash when you turn off the ignition, it's like a pump noise and goes off after about 1 minute.

Any ideas ?

Ive got a similar noise going on when I hit about 70 but its more of a Whistle I think its probably the pollen filter housing that's not properly seated as it only started after I had it off to change a couple of pcv valve hoses. Just left it as it will need to come back out at some point again and get by with turning up the radio Very Happy Only a couple of nuts to undo so no excuse really!

Regarding the dashboard noise YES! Ive got loads of weird noises going on before and after I turn it off which have always been there so wouldn't worry too much. The most interesting is the pressure building noise after the ignition is turned on which sounds like an air reservoir filling. I always wait until it fills up and stops before starting....although I noticed last week after charging the battery it didn't do it.

My battery has been losing charge consistently so I changed the final stage resistor today so hopefully that along with a new battery when I get round to it will calm down the strange noises for a bit.

Thanks Elduke,

Funny you mention the pollen filter as the car was just in last week for a service and the pollen filter was changed. there is no such thing as coincidence !!!.

I will check and post back the result.

I had a noise on my previous TD6 which was the same as yours. It was the rubber at the front of the rain gutter on the driver's side (just above the windscreen) which was lifting up and causing turbulence. Put back in, secured down and back to normal running. Thumbs Up
