Only had my Rangey for about 6 weeks and on friday the key remote was playing up and I couldn't lock my car with the remote.
I tried to lock the car manually with the key and it wouldn't lock! The key turns no problem but it just doesn't do anything. The drivers door handle has always been very stiff compared to the other handles on the car so I am guessing it needs some adjustment. Is it likely that the door cable just needs replacing or re-seating to get the key to work the door lock?
Don't want to get caught short with a flat battery or dead battery in the remote in the future

Here are the details since your search facility doesn't work




DO NOT TAKE THE DOOR CARD OFF, do not touch the door card, there is no need to remove it, only remove the outer handle and lock and reset the cam to the central position.


Open the door and look at the back, there is a grommet, remove this and it gives access to a torx bolt, remove the Torx bolt and the handle comes off. The lock assembly then lifts out and you have to realign the part that's left inside the door. Just use a screwdriver to do this and reassemble.



When you look inside you will see a slot similar to the either image 1. 2. or 3.
below, the slot could be in various positions depending on how it popped









Using a straight blade screwdriver gently reposition the slot until it is like the image below





Carefully refit the handle, Torx bolt and grommet and test to ensure it is working

Is this fix just for the key issue? I am assuming I will need to change the external pupil cable for a smoother handle open/close action?

Plant, all for you doing jobs yourself my friend... But sometimes there are jobs to leave to the professionals... I personally think this is one of them... It's quite tricky & if it goes wrong! You could be seriously in the mire...

Thanks Craig, but I've fixed the key locking issue now
It was actually really simple thanks to the clear instructions from 47p2.

The drivers handle is next. I think the cable or handle may just need re-adjusting so may take the card off today.

Ive had the panel off and the cable seems to be in tact and in place. The handle is rather stiff though, I have to put my thumb on the lock to get enough force/leverage to pull the handle open. I think it may be prudent to order a spare cable in case of emergency!!

Try opening the door, clicking the latch across with the door open (using a screwdriver) then pull the handle and see if it releases easily... If it does, close the door slowly and see if the striker on the pillar is pushing the door up or down or too far in? Can also make the door hard to open... (kind of initial jolt as the latch releases) if so, then it needs the torx bolts loosening and the striker plate aligning not too loose though or there will be lots of wind noise

Just tried that now but it seems to line up ok with the striker plate. Handle is still stiff even after closing the latch with a screwdriver.
I think I may just give the dealer a call tomorrow and get him to sort it.
