I have old style iron gutters that have decided to leak. Right now I don't want to replace them (repairs to FFRR have taken the last month).

Can anyone recommend a good repair material for several leaks? Main concern is the one dripping onto a flat roof. :

We had all ours replaced last year with new cast and used a non setting gutter mastic at each join. Hideous to work with, but very effective.
Evostick do a narrow mastic roll - I've seen it in B & Q - perhaps try that ?
I presume it's the joins between each length and not the actual gutters breaking up ?

 Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

I have cast gutters as well. This summer I rubbed them all down at the front of the house and painted them. I sealed the joints with a good quality silicone sealer. The nut and bolt had rusted away so they were easy to lift apart. I completely filled the joint and pressed them together. I have perfect seals. The joints were cleaned and dust free before I applied the silicone.
Funnily, it was a leak from the guttering onto the flat roof of our porch that prompted me to do it.. Previously..

Thanks for replies. Yes it's the join, well on first appearances anyway.

What did you paint them with and was it a wire brush you rubbed them down with?

I will look in B&Q for the goods!

I used a sander.. The small triangular pad type sander. I used quite a rough grade paper and just removed the loose flakes of paint... It was quite quick to do. I used a satin type paint for wood and metal. I got it mixed up at b&q to match some newer guttering at the back of the house. There was lots of paint available on the shelf for exterior metal.
Hopefully it should last for many years to come. Previously..
