The Diesel Fuel System Cleaner Thread....

Just to recap from the winter tyre thread.

Nice having the car track straight and true and smooth the tyres are nice and smooth.

Wish the engine was as smooth as the tyres. Laughing

You can get the engine much smoother if you want David Smile

How'd I do that - swap it out for a V8?

kingpleb wrote:
Seriously,
Some two stroke or mix in good bio for a few tanks to clean the system and injectors out as well as the cylinder bores.

Less serious option,
Turn it off
Turn radio up louder

I must admit the engine did sound better when I connected my phone with bluetooth and drowned it out with Led Zeppelin! Thumbs Up

£35 on decent Diesel Injector/Engine cleaner is a good option for all higher mileage Diesels. I actually works I promise Thumbs Up

Stan put this in the WIKI....

BG244 Diesel Fuel System Cleaner Thumbs Up

Have a look at the mothballs and snake oil ingredients on the side of said bottles, is be surprised if any other them did much.

Cetane booster is more likely to have a better effect but BioD has been shown to get engines clean and keep them clean a lot better and more gentler than the rest Smile

KP your RR has not moved for months (dead) due to injector problems having run it on Bio Diesel etc. Rolling Eyes

I can tell you categorically that the Diesel Cleaner I mention above CURES injector stutter and other related issues within 30 miles. Fact.

kingpleb wrote:
Yes it's not moved, but why know why Wink

And if something is that strong it can clean carbon build up of a solid metal during high compression cycles I would love to see how abrasive it is on the rest of the fuel system Sad

It cleans all the sticky gummy sludge/shlt left behind by 100k plus miles of cheap supermarket diesel and chip fat if present. Try it Whistle

Last you told it had an injector failure....

Still not convinced as I've seen a few engines with and without the addins and there's never much to tell them apart.

Gazellio @ Prestige Cars wrote:
KP that's easy the one with stuttering engines due to to dirty injectors are the ones that have not been treated with BG244 Diesel Fuel System Cleaner....

I have seen several cured within miles it makes sense mate, not sure why you don't get it. It cleans the whole system including injectors. It works I can personally vouch for that. Thumbs Up

I know we are going way OT now so sorry Martin/Stan Smile

If your putting stuff like that in the tank you want to be doing it 2 tankfulls before your next service as well, but these are only one shot pricey deals that need to be done as part of a service routine.
BioD and 2 stroke can be chucked in every now and again as you feel like it without worrying about doing it before a service.

Looking at some of the ingredient ratios it looks like 1/2 the bottle is basically a diesel/petrol mix and the main thing doing the work is Polyetheramine. The stuff that makes up the carbon deposits is also what is part of the process for making fuel lines and so forth, so you can see why is be concerned about running it thru a fuel system.

Not meaning to have a dig or such like Gaz, just wanting to learn more about this stuff and while I can see glowing reports from the people who put it in I can't see anything from further down the road from them saying how the car was 12+months later.

My take - Craig recommended diesel cleaner and he is in a position to know. I've been meaning to get some but haven't got round to it yet. Haven't used the car that much since though.

Having said that, the TD6 is never going to be a smooth and quiet engine. Laughing

I got some BG244 and used it, I think it has improved things as I can't remember why I bought it in the first place as engine runs smooth. If it was always this smooth I wouldn't have bought the cleaner in the first place - if that makes Very Happy sense Geoff

I am a big fan of redex diesel cleaner. I double dosed it every few months (as it is so cheap) and feel it contributed to my smooth running. Previously..

Redex sorted out a stutter on idle in my wife's BMW 320d Thumbs Up

I put the full bottle in about 1/4 of a tank then run it all through immediately - not what the instructions say to do, but worked well

Last week I put a can of BG244 through my FF - I'll let you know if there is an improvement later this week when I've had a split turbo hose replaced.... 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

The less fuel in the tank, the neater/stronger the mix... The more chance of clearing a partial blockage rather than just gently cleaning the fuel system as with mixing in a full tank of derv Thumbs Up

A kin to filling a fuel filter with neat cleaner "to give it a blast through"

I put a can in to try and clear up a possible EGR issue. Seems to have made a difference, wether placebo or not. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

This chap, Mark, supplies it and also supplies a top up at the pump additive, Archoil.
Theres not too much info on his web page yet but do call him and ask.
Hes very user friendly.
The BG244 is a two tanks tonic while the Archoil is a top up after the two tanks have been used.
I saw this guy at a show and then Googled for more info before buying.
The BG244 is an 10,000mile treatment so as said above, include it at service.

I use the Redex Diesel Additive fairly regularly with the FFRR, normally get a large bottle from Halfrauds for £12.99 and put 1/4 bottle in per tankful. I find it does smooth things out a bit...especially as I fill up at Morrisons. I go through a full tank of diesel per week, getting 625 miles per tankful and it makes cold weather starting easier.
With the amount of miles I drive each week in the FF, using the cheaper supermarket derv and a fuel additive is good economical sense, plus I get loads of Morrisons miles points and a £5 shopping voucher once a month on average.

Well, I bought a couple of bottles of these, the only diesel injector cleaner I could find in Switzerland, and added to a full tank of fuel. Each is meant to treat 60 litres, so slightly overdosed.

I've burnt about half a tank so far. I've noticed that the slight run on I was sometimes getting on switching the engine off has gone. Otherwise everything is the same. This is what I was hoping for/expecting.

I have a couple of these to go in at the next tank full.

Would quite like to try the BG244, but so far I've been unable to source it here.

Well I bought some Archoil AR6400-D and it clearly says on the instructions not to overdose!

I'm very sceptical of anything like this so I put it in my son's TD5 without telling him what it really was! Twisted Evil

A week on and he says its not smoking as much!!!

I think I will get some more and give the V8 a go.

I'm thinking of a JE re-map so I want the car running as best it can before I commit, 500 quid buys a fair bit of fuel!
