Sounds like a problem with the actuator that runs the latch. The plastic tab is like a manual override.

Could just be that the latch is "gunged up".

Thanks TimP and Paul271, had a look on eBay and have seen what you mean, as I need to take it out to check the numbers I'll have a go at cleaning as you've suggested first and if that fails, I can order another

Paul there's one on eBay for £25, buts its for a 2006, so i'll have to take it out to check to see if its the same number.

£31.45 for a left or right on eBay and that includes the actuator.

Again other forum members have saved me some money, took both latches off, cleaned and re oiled, Both working fine.
