Buying a car over the phone.....

Ok when I buy cars I generally go and see them first.

Not this one mind, I might need my head read, but thought how many of you would buy a FF over the phone with the dealer giving a full and accurate description, as well as seeing the photos of the car been sold, been fussy with little marks on the body work and wheels as well as other little things, and they are little thing too.
A credit to the chap selling it too though..

Heck I must be mad! Laughing Laughing

At least one thing is for sure.....I'll have a FFRR sticker coming my way Cool Razz If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Bought two motorbikes over the email/phone (CBR 929 Fireblade and ZX-14/ZZR-1400) and both were excellent bikes.

To me it is about how comfortable you feel with the responses of the selling person. When your 6th sense is not screaming warnings, you are probably going to be fine. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I just done the exact opposite to what I would do normally and got my first FF....test drove many but didn't feel right, wrong colour or wrong spec...this one is one I have been after for many many years, right colour with the right wood trim I wanted.

This FF is the other end of the country so viewing was not even possible as time off work is difficult at the moment, also this FF had 2 others look at it before me and there is 1 other to view it.....so I grabbed it first! Laughing

Not told Mrs Dragon yet though! Whistle Whistle If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Couldn't bring myself to do it with an FFRR, unless I had commissioned Gaz to find me one!

That said, just bought my daughter a Ford Ka by accident on eBay (don't you hate it when you put in an offer and it gets accepted). Will give it the once over when I collect it, just to ensure it is as described Wink .

I've bought a couple on eBay and just turned up to collect them & driven home. The last one I got from Belfast - they seller met me at the airport - I then drove to Larne, got the ferry to Stranraer and drove home.

I did everything wrong, turned up with a pocket full of cash, got into a strangers car - in the rain etc. but it all turned out OK

Bought my FFRR over the internet while in Singapore and paid for it in full before I got home to the UK.

First time I saw it in the flesh was when I picked it up on my journey home from Singapore.

Turned out to be a good deal for me. Very happy with the car.

Bought mine over the phone, actually just emails, it was the spec I wanted and it's from a main dealer, I just hammered them down to a decent price! Got 30k off the new price for a 2012 ff that was 12 months old and 10k miles, just pick your time usually at the end of the month!
Very pleased with it Very Happy

Bought both my FF's over the 'phone as they were too far south to go to view.
Both were southern softy cars Whistle
If you're going to do it - ask every possible question you can.
Both my cars were MD FSH - I checked with the individual dealers.
As for condition, get them to do a comprehensive "walk round".
If you have to leave a deposit, make it abundantly clear you will not buy the car unless it is exactly described . . .
Quite stressful, but in my experience, worth it !

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Done it twice, flew to Glasgow to buy an 11month old Cayenne S, drove back to London in 1 go.
Car was mint, buying process seamless... But gearbox went a few years later . Thank Christ I had the full Porsche warranty

2nd time, Volvo xc90 from Stratstone in Bury. I grilled him over the phone.
"You won't be disappointed sir ....!" Whistle
Train up, drove back

Car was good condition, 2 tyres were a little on low side and there was only one key.
I insisted that they give me a few £ off so I could sort it out when I got back.

I would still do it again, just ask lots of questions, maybe over email so you have it in writing should you need
To follow up on anything ? Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

Wow, I thought I was the only headcase to buy a Range Rover remotely!

A few years ago We were doing our house up & needed a something to carry lots of buildingy things e.g. rubble, dismantled kitchens, new tiles, bricks, furniture etc. so I got rid of my then expensive sporty car & bought a P38 on eBay. It was my first Range Rover. Worse still it was in Plymouth so booked a flight for me & my youngest Daughter & went a collected it & drove the 500 miles home. It cost 1/30th of my previous car and I adored it almost from the first turn of its wheels. Now can't drive anything but Range Rovers Exclamation

The P38 provided the perfect tool, even swallowing a pallets worth of tiles in one go!

If the right car sings to you across the miles, sometimes it pays to listen Cool Should've been old enough to know better...doh!
