Don't disagree with any of that, however...

- whatever may be said about book values, high mileage cars are generally harder to move on, and that will discourage the initial purchaser from taking the plunge.

Yup agree with that Thumbs Up

My point was that we are seeing more young Range Rovers with high motorway mileage. A 2008 with high motorway cruising mileage has no reason to expect failure of many components as the car itself is still quite young.

I personally know of several in the family with failed gearboxes and engines with bills running into £10k for just an engine and these were for "young" vehicles.

I have also personally had two engine failures, Land Rover fortunately looked after one and the other LR contributed to it.

Expensive component failure does occur and quite regularly - especially where high miles are involved. We run a small fleet of RR's and LR's and have done so since 1973 and know specifically what the risks are, and how to limit the risk. Hence we try to avoid running vehicles over 90K as component failure is higher over this mileage and they are significantly harder to shift on as they get over the 100k mark.

Unfortunately, nothing lasts for ever and parts do wear out, its a fact of life Thumbs Up

I think the bottom line is there is nothing wrong with purchasing a higher mile vehicle, but just be aware of the risks, keep a fund set to one side for emergencies or buy a good warranty

Having bought a 135,000 miler 2 years ago, I can only reinforce the above. I chose well (previous owners were leading lights on this forum) and have had a superb driving and owning experience.

now with 158,000 miles, I intend keeping it for a lot longer as it is not worth changing and having just passed its MOT with nothing except Drop link change! Bow down
