hi guys, im new in here, i have got a 2003 Range Rover Vogue 3.0 TD6. i was killing time on ebay and saw a few bmw M57 twin turbo diesel engines taken from 535d/335d in germany, then got some crazy idea like swapping my engine with the latest M57 twin turbo engine, so isnt it the same M57 diesel engine with my RR TD6 end of the day? have any of you thought about such an engine swapping with its 6 speed auto gearbox to their RR TD6? i think its quite possible to fit this engine on a RR, pls guys tell me if am i mistaken about it..
I love my car but the performance is really hopeless as well as the fuel consumption. if i could do this swapping, i wouldnt sell it forever lol

it would be cheaper and easier to buy a tdv8 2002 td6 vogue, 06 supercharged facelift

There are such engines for 3-4k euros on ebay. Looks like im gonna do it , TDV8 is still very expensive and i wanna try something different, if i can do it im sure its gonna have way better performance than TDV8.

youll need all the wiring all computers a 4wd gearbox, need to make a new propshaft, new gear selector, reprogram everything, if you pull it off big respect ,  2002 td6 vogue, 06 supercharged facelift

yeah i know but what if i keep my 5 speed stock gearbox instead of 6 speed?

there are people who have had gearbox problems just by chipping the engine, i guess if you put an extra 100hp through it that it wont last too long 2002 td6 vogue, 06 supercharged facelift

what about a TDV8 6 speed gearbox ? there re few on ebay as well

a tdv8 is a jaguar/ford engine totally different gearbox 2002 td6 vogue, 06 supercharged facelift

Just for the sake of playing this through - in reality overcoming the electronic problems will be next to impossible to solve and even if you could solve them, doing so would be prohibitively expensive:
- Swapping transmissions between a pre 06/post 06 model is near impossible as the electronics for the pre 06 are BMW based, post 06 are Ford. Not compatible.
- Swapping a later BMW transmission is also next to impossible. You'd need to build a transfer case adapter and, while the electronics themselves might speak the same language, there is no compatible model so they wouldn't know what to say to each other.
- the most logical approach would be to swap the twin turbo for a BMW V8, but you'd still have the next-to-impossible-to-solve electronic problems as above
- even replacing a standard td6 with a twin turbo is nearly impossible due to these electronic problems (I would have loved to be able to swap a M57 for the M51 in my P38 - same issues).

Have your TD6 chipped and if that isn't enough, save for a TDV8. All else will not work.

haha, nice one mate but 184 bhp is the oldest version of bmw 3.0d. instead of paying fortune for the new engine and gearbox, i'd go for 2010 facelift conversion and try to do with a remapping.
