Are Pirelli Scorpions any good in the snow/ice?

Having just bought the car I was wondering whether for the winter I need to acquire a set of 18" wheels with hardcore knobblys or new scorpions will suffice to get me in and out of the village next winter.
How did the rest of you get on last year and what tyres are you on?
Kind regards,
Ed

I loved my Scorpions on my previous FFRR TD6.....BUT.......

Last winter(Jan/feb 09) I literally was scared s!"tless as my pride and joy could not cope with a hill descent at 5mph,I narrowly missed kerbing my lovely rims by milimetres.

I have Contis on my new Range and they are superb!!! Thumbs Up If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

I drove in the worst of the snow we had in surrey last year on my scorpions and never lost traction, even on steep inclines. I have total faith in the tyres capabilities. They were great on my Disco 3 too. If they are standard fit from the factory, believe me Land Rover have tested them to the extreme. 2018 Range Rover Autobiography

Yes, but which Scorpions??? There are more than one!

I put a set of Pirelli Scorpion ATR's on last year and they were not bad in the snow. They are biased 70% on road and 30% off road. VERY different to the standard Scorpion which comes on the car. Neutral The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

well it would not be straight forward then would it..I guess I mean the standard fit tyres that LR recommend.
Any ideas about these?

Idea ...or maybe snow boots? (google - Weisssocks) - I have heard good reports about these, apparently they're very easy to fit.

I currently have Pirelli Scorpion Zeros on the front and my original Michelin Synchrones (they've stopped making these as they've been superceeded) on the back which have now covered 46k miles (fronts lasted 44k). The Michelins seemed to corner better for my money (which is strange as they are harder wearing so I would have expected the softer Pirellis to do better), but I am always heavy on cornering so the Michelins worked well for me. Got the Pirellis at the LR Main Dealer who did a great price on them (as cheap as virtually all the internet sites I checked). Steve

I had a very unpleasant experience with Pirelli Scorpions this winter for me.

Try Vredesteins Wintrac Extreme - loads of info on the D3 forum, just search Vredestein
