SC MY06 - Some questions on the in-car electronics

Hi All, Very Happy

I spent some time having a play around with the new (to me) SC today. Bearing in mind I do not have any manuals I'm struggling with a few bits. I've done lots of searches but still have some outstanding questions if anyone could give some help please Question

1) I put new batteries in the IR headphones: 1 x pair of IR work OK, the other crackles and only has sound in the left ear! I have seen replacement earphones on eBay but how do you pair them to the FF? Also, what does the A / B switch do?

2) The rear screen (driver's side) is white whatever input is selected (TV, DVD etc.) - There is a button to turn the screen off (which I note from the working screen actually only turns it black and not really off) but this one remains white even in the off position! There is some information on the internet but it all seems to refer to P38s. Any ideas on this please? Should the fault show on diagnostics? (I am having it plugged in on Thursday).

3) I have no TV / DVD remote. Should I have? Can I buy another? How do I pair it to the car?

4) The button with a picture of the headphones and AVL on it is auto volume levelling based on vehicle speed? Correct?

5) Venture / dogging cam - When charged in the dock, it works for 4 seconds before it's dead. Batteries are obviously goosed, I am going to ask an electronics whizz mate of mine to change the batteries. Any other ideas?

6) TV Tuner - Now an analogue snow screen! I'm trying to decide whether a Hybrid is worth doing. It's hard to justify as I have an iPad with a Tivizen dongle. Has anyone bought a Hybrid tuner from eBay? Is it good? Are you glad you did it? Is there anything to watch for?

Thanks in advance, I really do appreciate your time. Thumbs Up 2006 4.2 SC

Hi Skot,

My £0.02

Wondering if the wiring under the seat is damaged. I lost sound to some speakers when the wiring got chafed? I believe it's quite packed down there.

I was tempted by the digital tuner but couldn't justify the cost for something I never really used.

Daveo on here has successfully refurbed some venture cams,

Many thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

Rear Screen - is clearly getting power (it's powering up white) but I will check the wiring under the driver's seat - I can see that being a joyous task!!

VentureCam - Thanks, I will drop Daveo a PM. 2006 4.2 SC

Just a follow up to the above:-

2) RSE - The OS rear headrest white screen / monitor appears on first inspection to be just a white screen but if I kneel down and look up (at a very peculiar angle!) I can just about see a very faint image of whatever is playing. I suspect the white balance has gone. Does anyone know if the screen can easily be taken out and repaired?

3) Should there be a remote or is everything controlled through the touch screen?

Thanks in advance! 2006 4.2 SC

Point 2) Today I have had the rear headrest screens /monitors out and swapped them (good advice Stan Thumbs Up ) and the screens are fine when swapped so it's the feed from the RSE module that is faulty. I will look in the week. Wouldn't it be nice if it was just a loose connection?! I suspect it won't be though........ 2006 4.2 SC

There is a remote. Seen them on eBay, £115 ! Mine is a bit flaky, so I tend to set film to play from front touch screen before driving off. Disadvantage is that once you've let handbrake off you can't fast forward etc

My car came with two pairs of original headphones, which is fine, but I Have 3 kids ... Bought the ones off eBay for £25 "Rosen" . No pairing required. They are not exactly same, but good quality.

Would like hybrid tuner , will probably get one at some point . Would like to change wheels first Whistle Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

Thanks Guy, much appreciated. So in theory you could pull up at the traffic lights and use your remote on the FF next to you?!

Re my process of elimination.......Does anyone know if the video feed for AUX 1 and AUX 2 goes DIRECTLY to the screens / monitors or VIA the RSE module in the boot? 2006 4.2 SC

The av input panel is wired directly to the RSE module in the boot, from memory it is the blue cable. The rear screens have a number of connections before the RSE module. I had a dodgy connection on the left side under the seat next to the body control module but it did not give the same problem as you describe however cleaning it and reseating it cured the problem. There is another connection within the seat backs themselves which is a bit more time consuming to access. Both the RSE remote and the headphones work on infrared and interchangeable between vehicles, no pairing necessary, I would keep an eye out on eBay as they do regually appear on there or speak to Dan as I don't think they are that 'expensive' new. The A , B button selects the audio source from either the left or right screen. As others has said the venture cam batteries are replaceable as I have done, there is a good write up on this recently I think it was put in the WIKI. You can download all the user guides including the RSE one from the LR TOPIX Site for free. Good luck its worth having it working correctly if it's already there , keeps my kids quiet at least sometimes! MY2007 S/C - Stornoway / Jet
