Help Needed with starting issue

Only had my TD6 FFRR 3 weeks and got my first major problem. Problem is sometimes it just won't start, it turns over but just won't fire.

First time it did this i'd had the windows open and was cleaning the inside so thought it was cos id ran the batery abit low. Put some jump leads on from my old Pegeot estate and it fired up straight away (was embaresed like)

Seceond time it happened i'd been using the car popped in the house for 5mins came back out and it just wouldn't start. Still turning over just not firing up.

I then got it checked by a local friend who checked the battery and alternator. He said it was only charging at 13v so i booked it into the garage under warranty. Garage had it over night and apparently it was a bad earth. All seemed fine for 3 days

Then yesterday was fitting new wheels and car was open but doors shut. Once wheels where fitted it just wouldn't start up but again was turning over but just wouldn't fire. Tried locking it a few times and trying again eventually it just went and all seemed ok.

Any advice before i get it booked back into the garage.

To me it seems to be an imobilser problem when i've left it unlocked or a batery issue but i'm no mechanic

I had prolonged cranking especially when hot which was a result of a injector dieing last summer.

Other problems could be the fuel pumps, I understand there are two but never explored them. If your chage has been low it may be the battery is on its way out now having been damaged , though I would still expect it to start if it were low voltage.

Other thing to check is earth leads are good and that the red power cable on the bulkhead infront of the battery is nice and clean and tight connection (covered by a cover used as a jump start point).

It may be worth getting any fault codes read as that would give a starter for ten.

hi does it start every time in the morning or evening if it has been left, is this a prob when you have opened the car or used it...i would think if its a batt issue then it would do it first thing, i would say get a diag on it and see what codes come up..you could say your self a lot of time and money.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Thanks for quick replys.

It has started first thing everymorning and has only happened after we have been out in the car so could be something to do with that.

Where can i get a diagnostic done in the north east England or is it a main dealers job?

Elpeede - i had thought it could be an injector issue has it's turning over etc just not firing. Is they anyway to diag the injectors?

Garage who looked at it last week said it was an bad earth like and it seemed ok for a few days and has been fine all day today, I've done over 30 starts today whilst hot and cold.

Few searches on google and it seems like the injectors and fuel pumps are common problems on the TD6 anybody know how/where i can get the injectors tested.

I don't know any independants your way but they should be able to test the injectors plugging in if they are a Landrover specialist.

Ours was injector number 4. We were on summer Holiday so clocking up around 300 miles each move touring with the caravan so I guess the heat and duration of use probably sent it over the edge. Initially when hot it took a considerable amount of cranking to get it to fire. This went on for several long trips and finally gave up in Strasbourg when we pulled in for fuel and then it wouldn't start at all and resulted in recovery.

We had it looked at by a non landrover specialist in Italy prior to the final conk and they quickly identified the injector but couldn't get one for ages , we were near Lake Como and due to move in a few days so risked it. The Garage near Strabourg also sussed it quickly and managed to get the part next day and fitted it. I have since had all the other injectors reconditioned by a specialist local company. £130 each but new they are £250 - £300. They can also be a Censored to get out.. or if you are lucky they come ony no problem. Confused

Pluging in to diagnostics should reveal any current stored codes that haven't yet thrown a MIL lamp error so the answer is probably there , or any specialist worth there salt will hopefully be able to deduce the problem from the other engine sensor readings if they are not as expected.

I to suspect a pump but was wrong.
