So, with the keyless entry you can start the car with the key in your pocket.

Been there with the kuga...missus drove into town, jumped out and i drove to the driving range. Got there, stopped car then realised she had the key in her bag. Couldn't lock car and couldn't start it to drive back to her either...she had to taxi to me with the key...not fun... '08 Audi S6 Avant 5.2 V10 with Milltek non-resonated. Vrrrrrrmmmmmph

I can confirm that you can keep going until you...stop...or run out of fuel!

Daft design, so someone could drive off in it till they run out of fuel, which could be 500 miles away!, then strip the car or just stick it in a container heading for Russia.

Smartkeys are great but make it very easy to forget they are there (I just leave mine in my pocket all day).

Guy in my work left his smart key in his Mercedes M class in the underground garage at work; albeit he did turn the car off, someone got into the garage (building is multiple occupancy) and someone drove of with the car It was a company car, insurance refused to pay out and he now drives a Vauxhall thing and owes the lease company a whack of cash!

Or my other faux pas in a Lexus hybrid with smart key. Park up (in silence as petrol had cut out), get out of car, lock having forgotten to press the engine off button. Of course eventually the petrol engine kicks back in and had someone not spotted it I'd have returned to an empty tank and flat battery... |

I see all the convenience in the smart key solution but not programming in that when the car doesn't "see" the key anymore it switches off makes no sense at all. That is just stupid IMHO.

it seems like smart keys require smart people to use them...
