DPF Removal

Has anyone here had any experience of retro-removing the DPF from a 3.6 or 4.4 TDV8 spec'd with it originally? Is it easily done and require any other modifications or changes to software?

Cam-Tech Craig, is this something you've done to any of your cars? MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Removing the filter is the easy part, having the ECU sorted out is more difficult

Thanks both - I'll raise with Cam-Tech Craig in the first instance otherwise look for a tuner. Reason I'm thinking of doing this is the quality of diesel is much lower in Kenya and the car will also be used mainly for short, urban journeys with very few long distance runs, so worried this will cause me issues in a place where LR is not very well represented for servicing. MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Don't remove the unit whatever you do!

Buy a used exhaust section from a breaker instead and knock the guts out of it Smile

You'll be thankful come MOT time(if you keep the car that long!) and if the DPF removal doesn't go the way you want it to you can easily refit and re-enable it Smile

IIRC deleting the DPF will result in slightly higher MPG and this is backed up from other cars i have heard of it being done on. PSA HDi units being the most common ones Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

thanks kp. if this mod is done, i'd expect it to be a permanent one as there's no MOT in Kenya to worry about.

are there any other dangers (other than failing MOT) related to taking out the DPF? MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

As long as it isn't driven gently all the time it should be fine as it should have a cleaner exhaust tract but could lead to more soot build in the exhaust tract if driven gently all the time as with the dpf it would enriches the fuel to get the exhaust very hot and burn it all off. A good blast on a hot engine every once in a while should do the trick Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
