Each to their own but unless you're competent with/ have time for DiY mechanics and/or are have a very reasonable worth the paper alternative warranty, other contingency or Mechanic plan, we would not be without one. It is one of the best warranties on the market based on our experiences with 4x4 cars that have been covered by LR warranties since 2006.

Does that include breakdown cover LR assist or not?

Opinions obviously vary but for us, the premium has always been worth it.

Hi thanks for the reply that's without land rover assistance. Is there any movement on price I.e can you quote another warranty to them and get the price down?

I don't think the price is negotiable, we've always just paid the quoted amount come extension time because we know people who have tried other warranties who felt the brand warranty worked out more comprehensive and less hassle in the long run but there are also many people happy to run with no warranty or non brand specific warranties.

All down to personal preference.

The FFRR warranty I had, from warranty direct was only 95... It covered you for everything their 650 warranty did, but you had to break down and be recovered by AA/RAC etc before they would pay. You could not just go to a dealer because a warning light was on. I got it to really cover me against engine and gearbox troubles. Previously..

I have a warranty from car care plan through inchcape. Cost 600 gives the full lr select warranty but without the 3k limit, and is provided by the same people who do the LR warranty......

I would ask your local dealer if they have a "group" policy along side the lr one. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for the replies, what is the 3k limit ?

I do think it looks like the least hassle one as its a Land Rover approved but i'm intrigued as to what the group policy means?

the select warranty has a 3000 component limit on it. Above that and the warranty provider will look for a contribution from the owner.

by Group policy I mean that Inchape has set up a deal with Car care plan for car care plan to provide warranty support on cars sold by inchcape across its franchised dealers whatever the make of car, the policy is called inchape assist, however it is fundamentally the same as the LR select warranty. What i meant was that your local MD may have a similar deal with a provider, especially if they are part of a large group such as Inchape or pendragon, which may offer a similar level of cover at reduced rates. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

IMHO the select warranty is too select to cover much worthwhile. I took one out as an extension of the Original Factory warranty & they didn't cover a transmission oil pipe fracture, nor the cooler failure when removing the oil pipe as it didn't involve removal of a major component?

Also, they won't replace my rear ball joints as they haven't failed, even though its a common problem & an MOT advisory.

Save your hard earned...

That's a LOT of $ (or even Mr. Green )

If you've had your car for a while, kept on top of the maintenance, and have a good mechanic (or self) you trust to keep you abreast of developments, I'd say 'No."

Civil Servants & Car Care Plan Warranty Offer

Not sure the Pendragon Group do other than the main brand LR warranty.

Just stumbled across the 'CSMA Club' - website says it supports Civil Service employees and their families providing exclusive member benefits, discounts, holidays and events. To join you must simply be a current or past Civil Service employee including organisations with their roots in the Civil Service such as the Post Office and BT.

18 to join the club/ see this link to a Car Care Plan Warranty Offer -

http://www.csmaclub.co.uk/index.php

It says 2 levels of warranty cover as follows:

'FROM' 144 - 'Warranty 5' covers cars up to 5 years old or with 60,000 miles, claim up to the value of your car. Extensive parts coverage.

'FROM' 175.50 - 'Warranty 10' covers cars up to 10 years old or with 100,000 miles, 2,000 claim limit per claim. Named component coverage.

Through the website you can get a personal quote and find out exactly how much a warranty would cost but if close to 144/ 175, even with a 2k individual claim limit that might be an attractive proposition to some, when compared to the LR Ext warranty cost and it's 3k claim limit.

Another consideration for some anyway...

Not worth having with 3000 limit. I just had a bill for 15789 to replace an engine and two turbos at 49000 miles. Fortunately LR stepped in and paid the vast majority. I'm going with LR extended warrentee when my runs out on new car, if there are issues, LR will use their leverage to get more than usually offered. TDV8 Vogue SE 2009.

That's bad luck...

Not sure if there is a choice though for some people as to whether they can take the actual LR 'Approved' or 'Select' warranty as it's based on age and mileage.

You will know there are 2 types of LR UK warranty (Approved Extended Warranty & the 'Select Extended Warranty').

LR Approved Warranty A minimum of 12 months unlimited Mileage Warranty for Land Rover's up to 5 years old and up to 75,000 miles on the speedometer at the time of purchase.

LR Select Warranty For Land Rovers up to 10 years old and with fewer than 100,000 miles on the speedometer. Land Rover Select Warranty provides a minimum 6 months cover for specific mechanical and electrical components for up to 25,000 miles from the date of purchase. Cover can be extended.
