It's interesting this - for the first year, largely after reading horror stories on this forum, I took out a warranty nothing went wrong. So for the last two years I haven't bothered and so far have the equivalent of £1300 in the notional account, obviously I've spent that on beer and women (well SWMBO) and my fingers are crossed, but its certainly an option if like me you drive conservatively, do few miles, don't actually even need a car and are not unlucky. I actually think my RR is as reliable as any other car I've owned and none of them have been over two years old the RR is seven. : Geoff

I think I'd get it if only for the hassle free peace of mind. Having said that I'd be sure read the small print, namely exclusions. Better to be irresponsible and right, than to be responsible and wrong.

I would be putting that money aside and paying for a service with it.

The money left over will then cover for any other expenses that the car needs! 2009 TDV8 Vogue SE - Bonatti Grey

It is worth remembering that with, for example, the £3k single claim limit of the LR Select Warranty, even at main dealer rates, you would be unlucky to exceed that limit each time you make a claim. There will always be exceptions of course.

Customer focused Main Dealers/ LR can also offer good will to offset/ reduce any shortfall to loyal customers where warranties are deemed to offer lapsed or insufficient cover.

However, the LR Select Warranty enquiry that the OP was about costs between £800 - £900 per year by his account. Therefore £900 a year less the cost of a service (even at non franchised rates) leaves little contingency money for other repairs that might be needed during the year and for that reason, I'm not sure that logic is sound, based on actual experience of things that can go wrong (if I'm interpreting M.a post correctly).

Just my thoughts but opinions vary Thumbs Up

Hmm as i thought varying opinions really in a quandary as I'm fearful of gearbox total failure or an engine problem.

£850 is a lot and would get me a service and parts etc. I guess as its coming upto 70k miles I'm going to get it and see how it goes.

Will using an indie affect my warranty?

LR UK website says:

"LAND ROVER EXTENDED WARRANTY
Provided that your vehicle falls within the Approved or Select age and mileage limitations and has been serviced to Land Rover guidelines, the Warranty can be extended every 12 months through your Land Rover dealer. Please ask your dealer for details."

... Not on the SC but... Had a 4x4 covered by LR Ext Warranty last year and got service & maintenance work done at an Indy specialist (work done to guidelines). Couple of months later the suspension failed and the car was recovered to a main dealer who undertook repairs under warranty in excess of £2k.

Would advise you check specifics with LR warranty people before using an Indy though. Thumbs Up

I've gone down the "suck it and see" approach with my new car - an AJV8.
The last one I had was a Td6 and I took out a WD policy - costing £!400 over two years. I got a bit paranoid about gearboxes and the like. It never missed a beat !
When enquiring about the new car, I was surprised to find it was bunched in the same price bracket as a Td6 ? When I asked some more probing questions ref. engine/gearbox component failure incidents - they couldn't give me specifics. I would have expected the AJV8 to be less problematic . . .
Anyway, the clincher for me was over labour rates. Previously, there were two levels to provide for Indy rates - upto £60 P/H - or MD rates (the sky's the limit). Now, there's only one rate. My car will never go near a MD, yet I'd have to pay for that on the warranty.
So, it's the "piggy bank" route for me and expect I'll be servicing absolutely correctly with some preventative measures thrown.

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Hi dingg so if you got a major component failure would you be taking it to an indie and just taking the hit on the cost?

2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Corris Grey

Apologies for the thread revival - I am approaching 3 years of ownership and have really enjoyed the car, as such am not looking to sell as I ordinarily might after 3 yrs, rather extend the warranty to get another couple of years of hassle free motoring. I remember on previous marques I have owned the price of the Warranty could be 'negotiated' and some dealers offered much more competitive prices than others. Could anyone advise on what the current price is for a Land Rover Approved Warranty and whether different dealers (groups) offer better prices?

Thanks In advance
