Camping le pin parasol in the Vendee. 5 star, huge pitches, lots of amenities....bit too 5 star for us in fairness but nice all the same, 6 hours from Le havre.

Lez Eaux was great, nice pitch close to the green, shop and civilised bar. Couple of pics taken from pitch on the mobile, hence bad quality
But you get the idea.

Just back from "La Plage" a Yellow campsite in Brittany. Very chilled by the beach and very warm indoor pool for the kids with WARM outdoor water slide.

Going back to Camping le pin parasol in the Vendee again this year 8th August for two weeks... went there two years ago and the kids loved it.. meeting up again with people we met last time. we were at Pin Parasol oin 2012, lovely site and great owners. We are back to the Vendee this year and am seeking an overnight site just North of Nantes for a couple of nights....any recommendations ? Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

To the experienced ones who camp in France - do you stop off overnight en route to these sites or drive straight there? I've found a nice site but it's 759 miles away and 12 hours drive according to Google.

With safety in mind, have a stop over mate. Don't tackle 759miles in one hit....that's a perfect Google solution and you will be surprised how much stress it will add to your journey.

I have driven with the 'van all over europe and done the overnight dash down the autoroute at silly speeds...tbh you get to site stressed, tired and all over exhuasted...wifey, kids and everyone 'can' suffer.....

Sensiblely, I'd say find a municipal site at around 380-425miles marker and then do the next leg on the second day. Google can't allow for a flat tyre, roadworks or problems at a toll booth. It's very individual how you travel but I would rather take it steady and have less breaks but average 45-50mph instead of bashing along at 80mph (legal in france) and average 15mpg !!

Yep, 100% agree with that. Good advice. I've done Vannes in one hit straight off the tunnel and that was 9 hours. 1st 6 were OK-ish and then even with RSE to keep the kids amused the whole saddle-soreness thing kicked in with gusto. We arrived at site utterly knackered and all arguing about silly stuff.

Max in one hit is about 6 hours. That's about 300 miles from Calais in reality. You could do the overnight Cherbourg ferry but it's heinously expensive. Also there's a CC site just outside of Dover with special "Ferry" pitches. Catch the 6.30 train, in France for 07.00 and stop off for brekkie at about 9ish. I find bacon sarnies in the van are perfect. Another 3 hours driving and it's lunch time. Then a couple more hours and you need to be either at site or a stop over.

Last tip. Get a Sanef tag. Beats the hell out of queuing at toll booths.

300 miles is what I aim for, 6-7 hours MAX. It's sensible, you are still relaxed and the journey is your holiday too...I'd also suggest to do some N roads, not all A roads as they get very "same" and I have found N roads offer you something to see and you would be surprised how much toll money (then converted to beer tokens) you save

We leave Le Havre ferry at 7:30 in a few weeks time, I am heading for a place called Clisson for a few nights and then onto Bretignolles-Sur-Mer. I'll tackle the return in one hit as we then board a ferry and home via a CL in Portsmouth.

If Calais, then I'd aim for a late night tunnel and head for Baie de la Somme for an overnight. From Cheshire it's around 350 total...

All I would say is that there are those who will say to knock it off in one hit.....but think what a hard focussed 12 hour shift at work would do to you....then think of the family....
