Hi all,

OK, looking for a luxury caravan site in France to book for next year and not having much luck with google.

The operative word is luxury, as in 5 star and preferably a chav free zone, actually, scrub the preferably bit.

Somewhere in the northern half of France, say no further south than the Loire Valley.

What I'm after is recommendations from members on here, being the discerning lot that you are. Quality round here means a lot more than it does in most caravan forums (shhhh - don't tell 'em I said that )

Full service pitches, nice restaurant, maybe a decent pool for the kids. All this would be good. But the most important thing is peace & quiet.

Any recommendations then please Gents?

Check out "Chateau Les Eaux" near St. Per Sur Mer - it's west Normandy / Northern Brittany.
We've been for the last two summers . . . . . albeit without a caravan . . . . . superb. The first time we camped through Eurocamp, then this year we used our own.
The site is stunning, staff excellent and facilities superb.
It's about an hour and a half from Cherbourg and is very covenient for the Brittany coast (nr Mont St Michel) or for inland Normandy.

Been on a couple of "nice" ones.
Pierrefitte between Orleans and Vierzon but it was expanding a bit so I would look on line and sites de Chantepie near Saumur not to big in lovely location overlooking the Loire bit further than you said but worth it for the weather and no chav content!  Mine was a blue one!

Any one had any trouble with twin axle vans on sites in france?

Was looking at the website for chateau les eaux and couldnt see anything.

i think its possible have problems on municipal sites so as to deter large ta vans towed with .... Well, white vans i suppose.
But want to check it out before i book. I have emailed the site and am waiting for a response, however we may do a bit of random touring while there so its good to know if there is a rule of thumb. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Not had issues personally using a TA van but it is a well documented issue. I think once they see the tow car is a FFRR and not a white van it becomes a non-issue. There are plenty of sites in the UK which had prominent signs stating "No commercial vehicles of any kind"

The reason I was asking is to try and find a premium site with decently sized pitches and some proper facilities. Most of what I've seen has a standard pitch sized which will struggle to take a 26 foot van. A lot of the municipal sites are camping style basic as well which are aimed at tents, not caravans. Just a bit too basic for me.

Plenty of the Disco-3 chaps go caravanning in France; go do a search on there and you'll find lots of info. Most of them have TA units as well with the D3 being a 3500kg tug, there's no van too big.

Off to lez eaux tomorrow, really excited, kids going manic! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

We're going a gite in Normandy this year, but we kinda wish we'd booked for Les Eaux again - have a great time !

Off for 2 1/2 weeks R&R, Gardening, Plastering, Decorating so might get 10 mins sitting in the sun with Vin!!

I've been trying to talk the wife into going to France with the caravan but she's reluctant to.

I've heard the same about twin axle vans in France. A similar policy exists in Ireland. When we went last year, we pre-booked through the Caravan Club. When we arrived on site there was a sign saying No Twin Axles. The warden came out to us and I said I'd pre booked and she was ok with that. Later in the week, we drove the ffrr to Galway and saw a nice site in Salthill. I stopped outside the "office" ( old static) and the guy came out and asked what van we had. I told him and he said "no twin axles". I asked why that was and he just kept repeating like a stuck record "no twin axles". I even showed him my warrant card in case he thought we were gypsies but he wouldn't budge.
So there's one to avoid chaps- Salthill Caravan park Galway.

I am sitting on the Lez eaux campsite at the moment, in my twin axle van. No probelms at all, booked directly through the website, but did email them to ask first.

Really nice site can recommend it especially if you have kids, TugRR is right its great. Nice indoor pool with waterslides, and great other facilitles/shop/small bar/fishing lake. But not chavvy in any way, all really nice, not "haven/butlins esque" in the slightest.

We came on the tunnel yesterday but should have avoided pont normandie as there was a 2 hour q otherwise was an easy trip. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
