The wife went shopping yesterday to return to find someone had hit her car from the rear door to the bumper including the wheel Twisted Evil also they left before she returned. She went to the police and the shopping centre have a black car on CCTV hitting it then driving away. We shall see if the police will actually do anything about it Confused

Think its all too common nowadays, hopefully they got the reg of the offending car as there will no doubt be damage to the other vehicle to see as proof.

The police should do something, if only to get the insurance details from the other driver to enable you to claim off their insurance (you hope).

I think its just polite if you have caused that amount of damage to certainly at a minimum leave info on the screen!
I would but i think im probably in the minority. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Actually If you have the reg plate from the cctv and a copy of the video, then it should be a simple case of handing it to your insurers and let them sort it out! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

It should be but i wouldnt bother.

Get the CCTV video and see if a local video specialist can enhance it if you need to.

Then when you have the reg just go to www.askmid.com and pay the few quid for the fee to check it out and then call up the insurance company covering the nob and lay the claim with them direct and add however much time you wasted onto it. If they argue that just say you'll see them in court then and use your motor legal cover from your car insurance to chase it down.

In the last few years i have never had to place a claim with an insurance company i have been insured with and always placed them with the 3rd party at fault. I have rang mine to say that something happened and i wasnt involving them but that was it Smile

Last one was a total of circa £11-13k in final charges against them Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

What you've said Stan is really interesting. The police refuse to do anything that may have happened on private land but swiftly turn that around when it suits them. The experience that I had was a classic case. I was called to a 999 call to attend an RTI (road accident) but the crash happened on the west of Scotland agricultural college land. Some students had went on a night out in a local village, so they'd all been drinking. They'd parked the car on the colllege grounds & taken a walk back from the night out & picked up the car. However the driver managed to roll the car on the drive back to the student dorms. There were only minor injuries but when I was talking to the traffic police they wanted to do a breath test on the driver. This surprised me so I asked the traffic cop why he'd done a breath test & why he'd been cautioned. The reply was that the driver would be prosecuted as he was driving on land that was the public can enter & walk through. That surprised me Crying or Very sad

This goes to show that they can do it when the notion (or the stats) suit them. Yawn The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!

My posting was done very tongue in cheek, I really like taking my FFRR off road & its performance is astounding, but that kind of treatment really upsets the city living & city driving FFRR owners. I couldn't be bothered running a FFRR if I lived in a city. The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!

There's some confusion here, chaps . . .

I can't comment on the relevant law in Scotland, but I imagine it's the same as down here on this one.
If your good lady parked her car at a public shopping centre whilst it was open for business, it is a place "to which the public has access" - it doesn't count as "private land".
The laws changed here some years ago so that if this kind of "non stop" collision occurred in a place described above, the offending driver was liable to the same laws as if it had happened on a road. What this means, in reality, is they must stop, and either exchange details with the other party or report it to a police station - but this could be 400 miles away from where it happened !

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Finally just got this sorted, the car had just been repaired and a brand new alloy fitted.
Third party accepted liability and the total bill for the repair was £1200 Shocked
No wonder insurance is so expensive when they rip the Censored out of repair costs.
