Many of my customers swear by the Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme, they are a very good winter tyre and we are finding lots keep them on all year round.

This is sold as a winter/snow tyre and it has been debated very many times on other forums.

We do however have many customers who only use them for the winter months, some pay to have them changed over and some have a spare set of rims.

I suppose you would rather drive on a winter tyre in the summer than a summer tyre in the winter.

I find that a good All Terrain works for most but there is a difference in grip in the snow and cold wet roads on a good winter/snow tyre.

It's a big heavy car so I think it's best to do what you can to keep it moving and on the road, mind you they don't help when you are stuck in a traffic jam caused by other vehicles not on the right tyre for the conditions but you can most times find away around the jam on the country roads.

Got a full set of these on mine. They were nearly new when I got the car 7,000 miles ago. On my old Touareg that would have meant the car was about ready for a new set now. The Vreds are looking great. At very least I'd expect to get the same again out of them. Hopefully quite a bit more. Nice to see this cost saving. Should help with the repair bills!!

Seem to grip just fine on dry roads and cracking in rain. No aquaplaning at all. Lloyd Barnes

These vreds seem like a good tyre by all accounts. They will be going on the 20's when the current set of diamaris' run out. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

done 15K miles on my first set of Wintracs ...sold my spare summer wheels last year when i decided to run Wintracs all year round

great tyres, wont be fitting anything else in future, they are perfect for my usage cheers

Final update on this - 31k miles out of the Vreds with 4mm left.

Sold the vehicle so would have definite had a few more miles. Ran them all year round no issues no punctures, even wear and used off road - brilliant, tempted by General AT next though. The Vreds outlived G'year & Pirelli Scorpions by quite a bit.

My winter set are approaching the end of their life. I'm running them now as for winter you should have at least 3mm of tread depth but summer you can go lower, so getting the last out of them.

Just need to decide what to get - either the Vreds or Nexens.

Interesting reading this. I've just checked the price of the Vred Wintracs on Tyremen for my 18" wheels; at £184 each they are beyond my current budget. The other thing that puts me off is that if I intend to use them all year round, the wet weather grip rating of E is very low for a £184 tyre. We experience more wet weather than snow in this country so the wet weather rating is important to me.

However despite not being the tyre for me at the moment, they do appear to be a good purchase for a future set of winter wheels.

Probably also going for the Vreds all year - but have the same concern about grib in wet conditions. Any comments on that low rating they get?

I have seen the "wet" ratings, but honestly could not tell any difference between the pirelli's or Goodyear, all 3 on the same vehicle. Yes on paper there may be a difference, but in real world driving conditions I could tell absolutely no difference at all.

The biggest difference was in snow and ice - absolutely astonishing - I have run Vreds all year round and off road and would do so again. I have absolutely no allegiance to any make having used / still using Michelin, Goodyear, Pirelli, Cooper, Avon, Bfg's, Nexen etc but want to try General AT next !

I have kept meticulous records for all those
Makes and the mad thing is Pirelli scorpions in 19" last 10k miles
more than the same tyre in 20"!

Therefore if you want maximum tyre life run 19" and not 20" 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
