Bought a chip box from eBay. From experience I bought the cheapest one available on the basis that they all pretty much do the same thing. I've had one on most diesel cars that I have had and results have varied from not bad to dramatic. This one is pretty good. Makes my tdv8 much more responsive and on a run added significantly to the mpg. This is what I got on a 50 mile motorway trip today, 60-70 mph (being careful ish). Coming back It went down to 35 doing 10-20 more.

Really? What chip box did you use? Or is it verboten to ask such questions on the forum? |

You may find a different figure if you brim the tank and calculate the true mileage. Not saying it won't be better than standard though. |

I'm a bit of an old hand at these boxes and have had at least half a dozen. MPG usually reflects fairly well in the display to be fair. I've had results from 4-12mpg improvement on varying cars. They reckon a 60bhp increase on the tdv8 and it definitely feels like it.

Yes, that was it. He has good feedback as well. I've heard the comments about obc before, but don't see how that is possible. In any case this was checked against the fuel I bought after the journey and is right. the average mpg on your display is probably an accumulative figure for many weeks , whereas the figure you get after fitment of a box or a remap will be for that journey only after a reset ..you need to run for a few weeks to get a true figure..

you could be correct..the only positive way to get a true mpg would be to do a tank to tank test..but note, my proper ecu remap didnt work but blanking of my egr valve got a few more mpg's [td6].. ... - .- -.

I'm no expert here but from research, generally those boxes are just a resistor that drops the fuel rail pressure sensor voltage signal to the ECU. Some are slightly more clever but that box doesn't look to be as it's only and inline connection with the fuel rail pressure sensor.

That's good information Weejock and inline with what I've been told in the past too.
