lost / stolen keys

i've managed to have my keys stolen to my 05 range rover . i've spoken to land rover dealership who say they cannot delete a key remotely and that i will need to have all the locks changed and new keys issued.
is this right ?
even if i have all locks changed then surely if they cannot delete the missing key it would still unlock the car even if it wont start it ?

oh and to top it all off they took my mobile and have been phoning the wife and taunting her about taking the car Big Cry

When you get a new lock set and keys they will recode the car and keys so the old keys will cease to function with your car. As the system uses a rolling code system as soon as your car and old (stolen) keys become out of sync they will not be able to remotely unlock the car. If you don't have the locks changed then the key in the door will still open the car but the key will not deactivate the immobiliser so the car wont start. 06MY 4.4 V8 Autobiography Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior

Or, you could park it in view on the street and sit in the boot with some pliers waiting (use your imagination!)

thanks for all the replies so far,

no spare keys so car is stuck on the driveway with a 2 vans blocking it in.

re the insurance it only covers upto £500

are there only 2 lock barrels to change on the car ? drivers door lock and ignition lock ?

does anyone know how much i will be paying for a full lockset and keys ?

is there anywhere else that can do it apart from a main dealer ? can it be diy'd

thanks to all

Suppose a cheaper option may be to just order a new key and have an aftermarket immobiliser fitted?.

A sorry tale Censored Evil or Very Mad

However,FFS change your wifes phone number, cancel your sim with your company and stump up for a lock set and learn a valuable lesson.....NEVER leave your keys anywhere unless HIDDEN! Idea If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

You cant really guard against pickpockets unless you have a prison guard style keychain. On a serious note, I personally wouldn't hide my key anyway. Modern cars can't be stolen without the keys and if they're desperate enough to come in your house for it then I'd much rather they just took it, than came upstairs where my family are.

It is only a car after all........

Are they phoning your missus with your stolen phone?

If so, can the phone be traced at all?

so maybe I have misunderstood this, but :- if you have a missing key and this is replaced by the dealer, does this mean that it won't open the car remotely as it has been replaced, but the lost key will open the door if you use the key? if so would the alarm sound??

exactly what i'm doing , i've just ordered 2 new keys £377 , the range rover will only accept 2 keys so the old one will not disable the alarm or immobiliser.
