When you get a new lock set and keys they will recode the car and keys so the old keys will cease to function with your car. As the system uses a rolling code system as soon as your car and old (stolen) keys become out of sync they will not be able to remotely unlock the car. If you don't have the locks changed then the key in the door will still open the car but the key will not deactivate the immobiliser so the car wont start. 06MY 4.4 V8 Autobiography Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior |

Or, you could park it in view on the street and sit in the boot with some pliers waiting (use your imagination!) |

Suppose a cheaper option may be to just order a new key and have an aftermarket immobiliser fitted?. |

You cant really guard against pickpockets unless you have a prison guard style keychain. On a serious note, I personally wouldn't hide my key anyway. Modern cars can't be stolen without the keys and if they're desperate enough to come in your house for it then I'd much rather they just took it, than came upstairs where my family are.

so maybe I have misunderstood this, but :- if you have a missing key and this is replaced by the dealer, does this mean that it won't open the car remotely as it has been replaced, but the lost key will open the door if you use the key? if so would the alarm sound?? |

exactly what i'm doing , i've just ordered 2 new keys £377 , the range rover will only accept 2 keys so the old one will not disable the alarm or immobiliser. |
