Scratched sat nav disc

My sat nav disc wasn't working and had circular scuffs on it as though its been running against something for a long time.

Anyhow, I started by paying £2 at blockbuster video to have it polished. This worked fine at first but left some faint marks. On a recent run out, it kept faulting though so I had a go at it myself today. I started with a mild rubbing compound which removed the scuffs almost instantly. Then I brought the shine back with the posh equivalent of t cut (auto glym). It now works fine.

On reflection I probably don't need the rubbing compound and could have done it with the t cut.

Top tip, in case anyone else has a rough looking disc! My Previous RR's!

Yes, T-Cut or similar on CDs and DVDs is the age old remedy for removing scratches and marks. Because there is a film layer above the "burning"/data layer (especially on pressed discs) you would have to rub pretty hard to damage the data layer.

I have also used spit and the back of my jeans to clean up discs (usually after kids have had them for a while!) .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Graygates plastic polish available on Ebay. Fantastic stuff - used it in the RAF for cleaning and polishing aircraft screens (canopy etc) - would say nothing beats it Wink Saved me a fortune on CD's , DVD's and Xbox games Thumbs Up
