8mm Allen Key

WARNING:
If you've never handled the spare wheel before, take GREAT CARE removing it from the car due to it's WEIGHT and AWKWARD POSITION

This is what you have for starters - the two fixing holes either side of the jack. Remove the jack.

Idealy i think the tyre needs to be 1-2" onto the lower tailgate as you lower and the compressor in the 2005=> models isnt that sensitive to the odd little knock from a wheel if your gentle

Also take it as a time to check for dampness down there and hoover out any cack that has built up as left for long enough the dirt starts to stick and weld itself in almost  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

But seriously, you're right KP - I had some (ahem). I'm open minded as to the cause, however, as the latch plate of the lower tailgate was so loose the upper tailgate wouldn't seat or seal on the lower correctly. Tightened up now and all snug -

On another note.. I hate seeing lead weights hammered on to the side of alloys. Should be stick on weights only IMO.
The bracket for the weight will eat into the wheel eventually. Previously..

I've found it's a bit of a funny fit with a MY2007 car. The handle doesn't quite fit in as snugly into the wheel well as yours does. A bit of faffing and it does fit to the side and overall it makes getting tyres in and out a LOT easier.

ASP - Tyre diameter perhaps ?

I presume your SC is on the standard 20" wheels, so there may be a slight difference in overall diameter - taking into account tyre aspect ratio . . .

Until recently I never knew you could use the straps and bracket in such a smart way. I was always tugging on the bloody things myself And I'm sure it is not in the manual (although I will check when I have the car available again !!) Thanks for the excellent write-up. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

never realised how heavy the spare wheel was and how tricky to get out
dan supplied the parts fitted in 10 mins great addition
why did fords stop fitting this ? you could argue they created a health & safety issue

Funny I've had my wheel in and out several times and never found it particularly heavy. That said my G/F is insured so it would probably be a decent investment anyhow- She's far too handy to call the RAC!
