Does this wheel arch look right?

Looking inside the rear wheel arch, facing forward I can see this metal flange. It spans about 90 degrees, is painted metal and exposed to any stones thrown up by the rear tyres.

Is this correct or should the wheel arch liner be protecting it? It's the same both sides. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

its a poor design , what i did with mine , i cut a rubber trim strip to length , applied loads of waxoil to the flange and strip and then pushed on the strip to cover it , hopefully the strip will shield it from stones and crap Thumbs Up 1990 3.5 v8 defender

Re: Does this wheel arch look right?

Hi,

The set up of the arch and the rubber 'look right' but not sure the problem is acceptable:

I'm reading from your April 2013 post that the car was registered in Nov 2010 which means it is still less than 3 years old?

If not before, you're now doubtless aware that rusting rear wheel arches is a known issue that afflicts the L322.

Our car was bought as approved used from a MD and I noticed this problem within a couple of days of getting it home. Arguably, I might have noticed it when I arrived to collect the car but when buying a pristine so called 'A car' from a main dealer, looking for concealed rust was not on my radar/ the wheelarches just looked dirty when I closely inspected the car at the MD (only after I noticed during detailed cleaning did I have cause to do more research and find it was a known problem).

Anyway, many members are able to demonstrate that it is an easy fix that can be done within an hour or two and that is fine. However, if you've paid £40k for a car, your recourse for such a young car should be with LR imo.

Ours was fixed free of charge by the main dealer's body shop as their smart repair professional said it was not suitable for a smart repair and the rust would return within 12 months (I also know that Bellini's SC had the same issue when bought from a MD and that too was fixed FOC).

The below thread related to our rusty rear arches. If you would like to know further details about how we took our issue to the MD and how it was resolved, if you PM me and I’ll try and assist. Hopefully you’ll get it sorted either way though.

Good info I wasn't aware of so thanks. I'll be adding this to my snag list for next months dealer visit. Should be covered by the 3 year surface corrosion warranty I'd have thought as the cars' 3rd birthday isn't until Nov this year. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11
