Acceptable reading for a parasitic battery drain test?

I carried out a parasitic battery drain test this evening. However, I would like to know what the views are as to an acceptable reading? The lowest reading I could get was 0.2 of an amp (i.e. 200mA). However, I thought I should get a reading lower than this but, despite removing each fuse one by one, I couldn't find one that would reduce it any lower and that might be causing unnecessary drainage on the battery.

So the question is, am I ok with a reading of 0.2A, or should I still be looking for something else that might still be draining the battery? Cheers

Greg

Last time I checked mine the current drain was 0 when the car had gone to sleep.
200mA is unacceptably high and will lead to your battery going flat everynow and again. I would reasonably expect about 20-30mA as a maximum.
I assume you have checked every fuse on the car for current drain, including all those on the rear fuse board and the Maxi Fuses.
Have you checked for current drain back down thro the alternator when the engine is off?

Damn - not the answer I was after Sad But I had a gut feeling it should be around the sub-50mA mark.

Yep - checked every fuse in the glovebox and the rear cubby hole. Haven't checked the alternator drain though - don't know how to do that anyway Wink Wink Cheers

Disconnect the cable from the Jump start post and touch one end of your multimeter to the post and the other end to the end of the cable you have just disconnected.
ie You have put the ammeter in the alternator circuit.
Should read 0A.

Have done the alternator circuit test and it's registering 0 amps. So no worries there. Fully charged the battery yesterday and it showed 13.2V initially, eventually dropping to 12.92v. Been out this morning to test it and it's already down to 12.2V Sad

So despite fitting the new FSR, that's made no difference at all and I need to go over the whole "fuse-pulling" exercise again Banging Head Banging Head Cheers

fully charged battery should show about 12.7v. 13.2 sounds wrong - or was that the reading whilst still attached to the charger when the charger was showing full charge?

typically when i get into my FFRR and it hasn't moved for a week, it shows 12.1 or 12v.
drops to about 9.4 when cranking, and then up to 14.7v when system is charging.....

13.2v was when it had just had a full charge and was still attached to the charger. I've been using it for the last few days and have done 180 miles, just been out to test it - 12.26v!

Still too low, but it has started 1st time, every time in the last few days, so I'm tempted to leave it as is. However, I think the HVAC is playing up so that's my next port of call! Cheers

i don't normally take a battery reading when the battery is still attached to a charger that is on.
take it off and leave it for a while. 12.7v is what to expect.
if it drops much below 12v, you either have a drain problem or the battery is not holding the charge

If you have the original telephone installed and don't use it try pulling Fuse 22.
My phone is redundant and was draining 220mA due to a faulty relay on a Connect 2 switcher.
Removed the fuse problem solved. Thumbs Up

After all that, it would appear the cause of my battery drain was the Ipod not switching itself off! Didn't have it set to "sleep" mode! Banging Head Banging Head Cheers
