The snobbish thing of what the "Jones`" think you should have is totally ridiculous, its your cash not there cash and lets be honest they probably could not afford a TD6 let alone a L405 in any guise!

I couldn't agree more, the only person anybody has to justify themselves to is themselves, and jealousy from the jones' in a eurobox goes with RR ownership or any decent car.

However for me the doubt would still be there no matter what anybody said - that I wished I had gone for the bigger engine 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Does anyone else have a view on the low MPG figure I was getting?

Was it just because of the fact the car is new do you think or are they being VERY optimistic with their claim of 37mpg? Discovery 4 HSE

Taking the mental doubt to one side for a minute, I've found that many smaller engines are fine and plenty quick enough when driving one-up (my recent experience with a 3.0 SDV6 Sport comes to mind, but even that felt underpowered just by myself), but you also have to consider how it'll feel fully loaded with the family and a boot full of luggage on a steep uphill motorway, or other familiar engine-sapping scenario.

Maybe the L405 is OK. I don't know. But I wouldn't wish to buy one and THEN find that out when, for not terribly much more, there'd have been no doubt.

Sorry, Adam, I didn't mean to interrupt your next question. Si. <This is my name.

Adam,

My 4.4 is a year old now and averages 27MPG which although not great is not bad either compared to my SC 4.2 averaging 16!

Mines only done 5k though and not even run in I suppose but I would personally be happy(not overly happy) with 27MPG on the 3.0V6 with the running in still to be completed as it were.

Compared to a Bentley Continental GT I once owned 27MPG is almost the same distance of a 1/4 of a tank of fuel in the Bentley!

I do understand that though if Im honest as when I had my Evoque, although I loved it I felt inferior when a FFRR pulled up next to me or even a Sport! Embarassed If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

New to this this forum but surprised by the amount of snobbery when it comes to the engine. It can't be based on performance as the L405 TDV6 has performance very close to the old L322 V8, but is 500 kg lighter, so can't help feeling it wouldn't struggle uphill if the old V8 didn't.

As for feeling inadequate when seeing a V8 when sat in a V6, I must assume that the same would apply sat in a V8 if a SC pulls up next to you?

I don't think it's snobbery, just perception, and what you love.

You can't tell what engine is in the car from the outside, it's only badged between Vogue/Vogue SE/Autobiography Discovery 4 HSE

Tend to agree with those who say it does not matter. I have the SDV8 which will return 35-37 mpg on a run up country whilst keeping up with the traffic, the SDV6 is just as capable of keeping up and probably will return a couple of mpg more. Push on and I'm sure the V6 might be comparable in mpg. But in typical day to day driving you will not notice. After all the V6 performance is comparable to the L322 4.4 TDV8 which we thought was all you needed.

I hooked up a loaded trailer to mine last week. It felt as if I still had the handbrake on and I'm sure the V6 would have been worse but, and this is crucial, you adjust to the load. If you have a full car of passengers and luggage going on holiday surely you aren't going to use the full performance as you would have to hand out the sick bags and suffer the complaints from the passengers. Same with the trailer.

Fast cross country trips will be more relaxing in the SDV8 (more about the dynamic anti-roll than engine performance in reality) as you can overtake with room to spare but these days you are going to get abuse if you overtake regardless of the engine.

I've driven the SDV6 and it feels more agile as it weighs less and I certainly would consider it next time around. De-badged of course! 2019 D5 HSE Lux SDV6 Indus

1.4seconds to 60+ isnt to be scoffed at plus

600nm vs 700nm is still a good difference but in reality that SDV6 is pushed quite a bit for that amount of torque where as the 4.4 isnt.

JE's website doesn list any tunes for the 4.4 or 3.0 engines for some stupid reason i guess they dont want people to know anymore Sad

Other sites say taht the sdv6 torque goes from 600-645nm which isnt a bad uplift but shows the engine is near its max.

The 4.4sdv8 remap i found claimed 975nm of torque... Thats a hell of a higher uplift than the v6 engine and is about 45% more power on top so you can imagine how scarey that beast is! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I personally think there's a hotter V8 diesel coming. Let's be honest, the Sport will need it to keep up with the hot X5 diesel and the hot Cayenne diesel. The 4.4 has the overhead to trump both of those given some versions of the V6 on which it's based has been pushing 90bhp per litre for a while now.

I am currently costing up a 3.0V6 Vogue SE at £85k Big Cry . I have made the decision to add the options/spec over engine size. My question is does the V8 have any other extras over the V6 to make it handle better? I went from a 2010 3.6 TDV8 Vogue to a 2012 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE and it felt like there was a change in the driving dynamic of the car not just engine size. If I go down the V6 route what else do I miss out on (if anything)?

I think you can't get the active anti roll bars on the V6 - might be wrong though.
