Hi Guys, the ff has been running well so luckily not had to ask for much help until now

I had been losing coolant at about a litre a month so whilst buying some more today i bought a radweld equivalent at the same time on the logic it would creep in to the place its losing coolant ans seal it.

Well about two minute after adding it to the header tank i get a loud clicking noise, and a bit of a scraping sound. that's not too good i say so think i should try and drive it, 30 seconds later the fan belt is off and mangled around the pulleys, water p1331ng out every where and the car is looking generally fooked
why do i think stupid ideas like this?

Any way, I'm going to try and tackle what i can tomorrow, does anyone have any similar experience or tips they can share before i start?? 2007 3.0L Diesel VW Touareg SE

That sounds like a seized water pump to me. I had similar on a Sierra about 20 years ago where it was the pump leaking and the radweld got into the water pump bearing.

If the serpentine belt is shredded it sure sounds like one of the pulleys stopped turning so I would check to see which one and go from there. Odds are on it being the water pump though as it's chucking water out. And I really would get the radweld out and flush the system though with clean water.

New rads not expensive.

if the Fan still is where it should be
damage should be limited to new water pump (which was knackered anyway)
and quite common on 4.4
and a new belt

I've ordered a pump and belt, i just need to source a pulley lock tool as we tried every other way to undo the fan nut but just ended up obliterating the pulley itself  2007 3.0L Diesel VW Touareg SE

That's where you leak has been. You water pump is . The rad weld will ave sped up its failure. I would get the rad weld out ASAP. Expect to start getting transmission problems due to it overheating as rad weld loves to up transmission coolers. The water pump doesn't come with a pulley so you will need a new one. When you take the pump off be careful not to putt the 2 pipes coming out the back. There only push fit with o rings and they run to the rear of the engine so are a to put back in without taking other bits off. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Thank guys, much appreciated. I'm waiting for a friend to source someone to do this for me as I fell at the first hurdle - the f&^%ck&*^%in viscous fan bolt. The guy who helped me out No.1 was guy off here who lent me a tool to hold the pulley, which split on application, the second guy who came to help out and is a technician could not get the 32mm nut off with his usual shock off hammer on chisel so we took a blow torch to it eventually which did the trick. He didn't have anymore time so I ended up doing the replacement myself following the excellent procedure in the wiki on this site. Its not such a bad job, just a few things didn't pan out well for me.

Anyway, new pump on, system refilled, and only one schoolboy error of not fitting SAI pipe back on properly which meant another hours work

she's now up and running again, in for 3 tyres tomorrow and MOT Thursday, then away with the caravan next week 2007 3.0L Diesel VW Touareg SE
