This fault is something quite common to me.

I have helped sort this in quite a few case with the same symptoms.

You simply cannot turn the Key.
If you disconnect then re connect the battery you can do so, but only once.

Up until recently the only fix was to replace an ECU, however i now know a much simpler and cheaper fix.

I will put together a how to pos to share with everyone, but in the meantime please feel free to PM me.

Good info but....

If its physical steering lock bolt sticking problem how come replacing the steering lock ECU also works as a fix???

I think it reads that the bolt is inside the ECU?

I was not present when George actually replaced the Steering Lock ECU, and did not ask more detail about this, but after doing some further research am now given to understand that the ECU itself is just a part of the upper steering column assembly, which must be replaced in it's entirity.

I have amended my document to better explain this Thumbs Up 2003 4.4 HSE
