Venture Cam Charging

Dan,

My new Venture Cam has arrived from ebay and all looks to be in good order but its arrival has raised the issue of charging. I assumed (wrongly it turns out) that the holder it fits into would provide a means for connection to a 12v point in the car. Not so. So now it would seem I need another part to provide just that.

Would you be able to provide such a part?

Cheers,
Baron. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

Are you saying you don't have a Venture Came dock ?
If not I can't see how without a lot of work that no one else so far has tried to do you can make one work .

I'm thinking charging cradle , loom and programming the off road screen to recognise and show the image . 2008 MY Supercharged

Don't know what a VC dock is but this may well be the part I'm missing. The cam has 2 contacts on the underside which I assume are for connection of a 12vDC supply (from the car) for charging purposes. So all I need is a VC charging holder (dock?) and from there I just need to wire up a cigarette lighter plug. As the VC uses bluetooth for comms to the head unit in the dash it is just a matter of temporarily syncing it in place of any mobile phone currently synced.

If I can't get hold of the original VC "dock" I'll just fabricate something to do the job, shouldn't be too difficult. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

Hmmm....further research reveals the need for a docking station. Not only for providing a charging connection for the cam but also for receiving the VC signal and transmitting it via a canbus connection to the head unit.

Me thinks this is starting to sound both costly and complicated.......pondering my next move carefully. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

The docking station is located on the passengers side of the dash on the part that slopes away from the passengers knee area. I would have thought that the screen would have searched for the VC if you asked it to. I do know that on my FFRR it can search for quite a few VC's over & above the one that comes with the car.

Hope thats of a little bit of help mate..Rob The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!

Sorry to add to the problem but as far as I understand it, the dock uses Bluetooth for sending commands / establishing the link. But also uses a seperate frequency to transmit the picture part of the signal back into the AV system.
The dock on facelift (56 plate on with TR/Electronic handbrake) is in the upper glovebox next to the cd changer.
Had it, loved it!

Dan, can you give me an idea of the complexity on retrofitting to my RR? Is it a simple job or is it likely to be a show stopper requiring significant trim dismantling? 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

Good point, that would probably do just fine. I'd just like one for when I'm reversing up to my trailer hitch. The reversing camera placement is a pants design because its in the wrong place. Should be beside the number plate lights. The neep who decided to put it above the rear window should be shot! 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11
