Switzerland 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Wouldn't start...

It had been taking more and more cranking over to start when hot so I had the secondary fuel pump replaced.

Today I was at the DIY place with a trailer full of stuff and it wouldn't start. Swiss AA guy comes, there's either air or cavitation in the fuel line - you can see it. He squirts some Swiss easy start in and it fires up. Driving home I get the fuel injection system error.

I'll drive it to the garage on Monday, but either the guy who said he'd repaced the fuel pump didn't, or I have some other issue.

The really annoying thing is my other car won't start either, but that's another story.

I may be wrong here, just thinking aloud -

My secondary fuel pump failed a couple of weeks ago. There was no warning. Car always started first touch of the key. Hot or cold. Came out from work - just spun over, didn't fire.

The AA man that came out to me diagnosed secondary fuel pump by taking a pipe off the fuel filter under the bonnet, and turning the ignition on. (with towels around the pipe etc).

No fuel came out.

He said this tends to happen when the secondary pump goes - in his experience. If it was the pump in the tank, he said you get lumpyness, and some reluctance to rev over a certain rpm - but it does start and run.

There was also another forum member who had a non starting issue, but from after a run only, and the replacement of the secondary fuel pump didn't fix it. He's talking about crankshaft sensors etc........

Suppose what this leads me to, is that as you've had some symptoms show, such as reluctance to start etc, I'd wager its not the secondary fuel pump.

As I say, just thinking aloud- may be wrong.......

Suppose you may end up having to get the error codes off......

Turned out to be a dodgy injector - number 1 cylinder.

I had to top up the coolant recently and the garage confirmed it has a leak - so I'm in the market for a new radiator.

Can't really complain given it's done 112k miles.

Just got it back - now starting ok.

I've ordered a new radiator and also, as the car's taking an age to change height, a new compressor. But these I'll fit myself.

Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I did. He clearly knows his stuff and it looks a really good kit, but at the end of the day I don't have a lot of time available to install it. Also, I managed to find a new one for £230.

And I managed to get the other car started also. Dodgy connection to the fuel pump relay.

Put the wheels on my SP2 motorcycle also, so all my vehicles are coming up to scratch!

Was the injector fully leaking back so bleeding the rail pressure off and leaving it unable to attain pressure at crank speeds but fine at idle? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I didn't do the test - I took it to a garage, but yes, that was the problem.

I meant to do it myself a while ago but never got round to it, and to be fair, over winter it started ok. Bit of hot weather and it was fooked. Kicking myself a bit as a main dealer in Switzerland wasn't cheap, but I needed the car back on the road. I have a guy working on my house and I need to keep him supplied with materials, and the sports car won't tow a trailer!

It has more power than the TD6, but where would you attach the tow bar?

It's also a seriously light car - unless you were thinking of something like this?

Stopped for a coffee at a cafe for half an hour, when I came back the car wouldn't start. Just a click and then nothing. Absolutely no electricity at all after that.

Swiss AA man came and we found out the battery negative terminal hadn't been connected properly.

Going to as for an L405 in compensation.
