Computer says no

Just a word of advice re Island 4x4 and their customer service

Last Friday, I ordered 2 x suspension legs last week totalling £440. On Saturday, I discovered I needed 2x steering rack spindles these cost £13 each +vat. As it was under £50, there is a £5 + vat delivery charge.

I emailed island and asked if they'd send them free postage as I'd just spent £440 the previous day. They refused. They blamed the computer and said it wouldn't allow it.

Got me thinking about little britain!

Tell them you're cancelling the order under the 14 day cooling off period, then reorder as one order

^ brilliant solution. Thumbs Up
They only need a small number of customers to do that, and then they'll change and do it properly. It's still annoying, though. Evil or Very Mad

They arrived on the monday though so I couldn't cancel the order as they'd despatched it before I discovered the spindles.

I am not sure I understand about "little Britain" or your complaint about poor service...

1. The shipping on your first order was free.
2. The service was so good that they had already despatched it before you even discovered you needed the new parts.
3. The parts arrived next working day.
4. £5 sounds pretty reasonable for someone to collect parts from somewhere in the UK and delivery them to your door the next day.
5. You drive the ultimate luxury 4x4 and you are complaining about £5+VAT
6. Are you a regular customer? If the answer is "no" then there is not much difference between, "I spent £400 yesterday" and "I spent £400 in the last year" If you don't get stuck then you are not trying hard enough.

I think the original point refers to the postage being free as a gesture however they still need to pay for the postage whereas if they'd sent as one it could have been combined as one parcel.

It's one of those cases probably where they know you need the part so don't care.

I have just changed the plate on my car only to be told by Admiral that they charge £17 admin for updating the policy details even though everything was processed on line originally and when I spoke to the girl over the phone (who was very pleasant), she had changed it all over the phone while I waited.

All this and they charge 25p a minute when you call them! Hence why she changed it while I waited!

Am I complaining? What's the point...welcome to what's fast becoming a rip off society and if we all drive around with private plates, all the more opportunity for insurers to make some free cash.

Solution? Stick with the company car...

They couldn't have put the second order in the first if they had wanted to. Noddy said, "They arrived on the monday though so I couldn't cancel the order as they'd despatched it before I discovered the spindles."

Sending the second order free may have been a great gesture but not sending it free still does not seem like poor service to me. If you don't get stuck then you are not trying hard enough.
