Ireland 2008 Range Rover HSE TDV8 Java Black

Well people are buying them here for a lot more than that. A 2008 is about 34k here at the moment. With road tax at 1809 per year if someone wants a range rover they buy it. Present :2008 TDV8 HSE
Gone Audi A5 2.7TDI
Gone Discovery 3 HSE
Gone Mercedes CLK
Gone Range Rover 2.5 DSE

buyers who can afford £30+k are not going to be bothered about road tax, it's the buyers who would look to buy cars for around £10k that he was saying wouldn't buy a higher road tax car, TVR SAGARIS

Was chatting to a dealer the other day and his thoughts were when the higher road tax cars start selling for under £15,000 no one will be buying them, the sort of buyers who only have 10/15k to spend are not going to be willing to pay the high road tax so he can see the arse falling right out the market,

What do members here think?


Interesting point I think high milers under 15k will not shift and free fall simply because buyers will be scared of a potential money pit..low mileage examples will always have a certain attraction for buyers.

Every big lux car falls foul of the same problem...no matter how old they get they'll always have big bills to maintain and run= rapid depreciation..the l322 is no different. The only German lux marque which tends to buckle the trend is Porsche cause there frugal for performance cars and parts aren't bad and specialists look after them. That said the 3.8 is the 911s is not the best for reliability and was the reason why I never bought one Smile Range Rover SC 35th Anniversary 2006

The reason I bring the subject up is im maybe looking for a early TDV8 for under £20k, and my dealer friend said to me it better be a keeper or I must be willing to give it away in a few years just because of the bloody higher tax band Crying or Very sad TVR SAGARIS

It's amazing what an extra £250 pa does to consumers buying psyche!

I know loads or guys who bought 05 m5s just to get the lower tax band...never mind the bloody clutch and flywheel problems????? Range Rover SC 35th Anniversary 2006

Laughing I forgot to add 2.5 years of road tax into my calculations.. Laughing

But again, like fuel and insurance, I would have had to spend it on another car anyway. Previously..

for a Range Rover thats cheap motoring, buy new and you are looking at £15k to £20k a year in depreciation and running costs - minimum

All premium luxury cars depreciate very quickly. Those with big pockets want the newest and latest and will avoid the stigma of a USED car.

Since these cars do retain the expensive running and parts cost, they aren't most people's first choice for used, hence the spectacular depreciation. Solution: buy one you really like and keep it a long time. Thumbs Up

A few years ago, I was in Southern California on vacation. I was shocked at the incredibly low prices on used, late-model Mercedes S class saloons. Lots of $ around to get a nice supply new, then turned loose on the used car lots a few years later, I guess.

Bought my 2002 4.4 vogue a year ago. Immaculate with full service history, and with a prins LPG system fitted.

Road tax £270 a year.

I paid £7000, less than the depreciation suffered by the OP. Thumbs Up Only problem in a years driving has been the LCM module, cost £140 for a used item.

I can't believe the amount of money people are happy to lose on depreciation.
Still, mustn't grumble. If they didn't buy them new, i'd have nothing to buy when they sell them for the newest shiny model. Mr. Green

that £250 difference is enough to pay for nearly 2 tanks of fuel or at least 1000miles of motoring in a TD6... that makes a difference, and for some of our more seasoned Wink members thats their yearly insurance for one!

It does make a difference and i can only see the gap getting bigger as well.

It does explain why TDV8's seem to not be dropping below £15k at the minute but the SC's are...

I am getting more and more tempted with an SC as the days go by but couldnt bear to take it off road Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

So what is the definition of a high miler?... Main dealer who sold to us said the average mileage for these cars is 15k mls per year...
