DVD Changer Operation Question

My DVD changer has never worked, comes up 'Mecha Error' when you try to play a disc

My question is this - maybe someone could confirm .... When you put a loaded cartridge in should it pull each drawer out to check what trays are loaded? mine doesnt, it just sits there .... Presumably it should do this.

Hmmm OK thanks, guess I'm gonna have to pull mine out and dismantle it

When I put the cartridge in mine the right hand section lowers but doesn't seem to go all the way down to be level with tray 1, maybe something is jammed inside or a worm gear is stuck.

Before you strip it out just give the cartridge a tap with the handle of a screwdriver, this will sometimes dislodge the drive mechanism and it should start to work.

Worth a try before you try and remove it as you have to drop the whole glove box to access the three retaining screws and it is a pain.

When i took mine out i have replaced it without the screws so if it sticks again it is easy to remove.
