. . . . Just to add on to Gary's last comment, be sceptical about what spec it says on the ad (and the badges) - don't take it for granted.

An example recently was advertised as a "Vogue SE" and it did have the rear tellies, but these were aftermarket and the car was a base SE model. The seller was asking Vogue SE money though . . . . Rolling Eyes

If you're in this predicament, ask the forum for details - you will get the right answer !

Thumbs Up

PS Relax - there's loads for sale ! Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Santorini Black

Just been to look at another 3, a 2005 vogue se £14k, a 2003 se 9k and 2004 vogue 11k - none were anywhere near the quality of the one I've put a deposit down on, very scruffy interior, scratches and marks all over panels, bits missing such as reflector lenses, didn't actually test drive any as they all looked poorly cared for.
I honestly thought I was getting a decent deal on the one I've put a deposit on, I think I'll wait till they have fixed everything and test drive it again, if the steering isn't right then I'll speak to dealer about it then, I need to test drive it again to make sure they have fixed everything

Scotland 2014 Range Rover Vogue SDV6 Santorini Black

We were looking for one recently (either Diesel or Petrol). The 'good ones' that we were interested in - which most can probably spot fairly accurately from the adverts - quickly flew from the sellers (I'm talking within a week or so).

From forum reviews, the impression we had was that it was a strong buyers market and that sellers would bend over backwards to prove the car was worthy and that money in your pocket talks/ good 'screen price' discounts could be had (particularly on petrol models). It wasn't our experience. Wherever we were looking and whilst I was dithering/ arguing with myself about price/ other things, we missed a few cars that got sold quicker than anticipated.

There was one remotely located car in particular that appeared (and might well have been) 'a bargain' sold by a seemingly credible private seller. We were all set to travel a very long way and buy it, probably for full asking. I then reviewed what information was coming from the seller over a couple of days ... history gaps not well explained, moving goalposts, more questions unanswered than answered and a very irritable seller in response to reasonable questions that scratched beneath the surface and which were designed not to waste either of our time before a viewing. Alarms bells rang, we wished the seller all the best and ended up buying one costing over £6k more. Said car still sold quickly but maybe to a dealer or competent mechanic type/ don't know. Just too big a risk for us though.

As a novice on RR but having spent a frustrating reasonable period of time looking for hopefully a good one, best advice is the same for any purchase... go with your checklists, your eyes wide open, don't get seduced by the vehicle or any seller's BS, keep focused as to what you can foresee needing replaced first/ how much things are going to cost you; and by using a common sense/ does this appear to represent good value for money approach, supported by your gut instinct... you probably won't be far off the mark

And check under the rear door seals/ the edges of the rear wheel arches for rust/ failing paintwork (the idiot who viewed my wife's didn't think of that one!!!) Embarassed

In my experience almost all the rear wheel arches I've seen up to around 2008 have had at least specks of surface rust so that really isn't anything that would stop me buying a vehicle. 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze

I think you are paying a fair price and if the problems are rectified and you like the car just buy it, you may be waiting ages for another one as nice, all to maybe get a few hundred pounds off the price. If your happy go for it I say, I know lots of poor examples asking more money than that Thumbs Up

Thanks, I feel better after seeing what some other dealers had on offer, I might have got better buying private or from the forum but overall I think it's a fair price. I'm just looking forward to getting it now

Looks good Rob Smile

I'd get the exhaust bits and dodgey front grille off if it was mine and get it back to standard spec as it looks much nicer but thats only IMO of course Smile

As we always say, condition is the biggest indicator in the care an owner has shown their car. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Wouldn't have stopped me buying the car either... but annoying/ wouldn't want someone else to miss it and not get it sorted before it left the garage (it is clearly superficial/ aesthetic and a quick/ easy fix)...

Yes fake exhaust tips would be the first to go! Not too sure about the front grille, Although I quite like square mesh grille you can get.

Saying that just spoke to the dealer and the car won't be ready this Friday and the to be honest I got the impression he wasn't telling the truth

It's my first time back onto this forum since I sold my RR in November.

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic10241-15.html

It never ceases to amaze me how much these cars vary in price and very interested to learn that they are not hanging about on the forecourt for very long at the moment. I presume this is due to the very harsh winter.

Take ebay and auto trader prices with a pinch of salt. I learnt that the advertised price of a Range Rover is not the price at which they sell for. FYI my car eventually sold for 10K, and it wasn't because people were viewing it and walking away, I just couldn't entice someone to look at it. The first person to veiw the car bought it.

My car was good to me and I hope you get a good one too.

Chris

Well I'm not getting the car, I spoke to salesman and at best he provided inaccurate information when asked a specific question regarding the terms and conditions of sale, I spoke to the garage owner and he denies that this was ever said, I cant buy a car from a garage that I know told me incorrect information...so I've lost the deposit but rather that than buy from them!
