Rust - Should they fix it???

Hi,

Collected my new purchase from the main dealer 2 days ago.. Just started the process of detailing the newly acquired S/C today and...

Have found that there is unsightly surface rust/ flaking paint on the underside of both rear painted arches around the shut line where the rear door rubber seals meet the wheel arches when the doors are closed (car has definitely never been off road).

Annoyed with myself because I missed it when attending the garage to first time view/ collect 2 days ago (I missed it because I was knackered due to distance travelled alone, because the rubber seals/ dirt collectively masked the issue and because I wasn't looking for rust!).

Having since checked forums, it seems to be a common occurrence.

So, who pays to fix this... LR UK ('good will' or the selling dealership on the basis that I shouldn't be 2 days in to find rust when cleaning the flagship RR)????

They won't cover those parts.

Mine recently went in for some corrosion to the top tailgate, which they replaced under the warranty, but the wheel arches are not covered cos mine are the same. A quick rub down and a lick of black satin hammertoe might be in order. Discovery 4 HSE

My Q7 had same issue and it did get covered under Audi UK warranty.

Will take it up with selling dealership because - happy as am with car - would not have bought a car from them with rusty arches unless they'd fixed the arches first (if I'd known)...

Land Rover will only cover rust that 'starts from the inside out' - they will say that the rear wheel arch corrosion is due to stone chips - they did with mine and many others I know.

This is a well known issue with the L322 and the first area that should be checked when viewing, pity you missed it as I guess you have now lost your bargaining power.

I got mine repainted locally for about £200 but guess what, 18 months later and there are signs of rust again - the old slogan, rust never dies.......it just sleeps Rolling with laughter Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....

You live and learn.., have not seen the wheel arch inspection on 'before you buy' checklist... Anyway:

Why buy an approved used LR?

The Land Rover UK website assures customers that approved used Land Rovers undergo a comprehensive multi point inspection and states that all vehicles are given a comprehensive inspection by Land Rover trained technicians. The website states:

" Everything from the paintwork to the performance and safety is checked. Should any faults be found with the vehicle, they are rectified prior to display and sale using only genuine Land Rover parts. The inspection always includes a complete engine preparation, a road test and final inspection before the vehicle is professionally valeted. "

Take it back to the dealership and point it out. With LR dealers you have a 30 day or 1000 mile return policy if you are not happy. I'll be surprised if they don't do something for you.
I have always been told this from the four dealers that cover my area. '88 RR Classic, '90 Classic, '93 Classic, '02 Discovery TD5, '55 Discovery 3, '01 P38 4.6, '06 L322 Vogue TD6, 2012 L322 Vogue TDV8, 2017 L405 Autobiography

A 5 hour drive from me so not practical to go in.. won't be high and mighty about it either as the car is superb/ don't think that's needed as it seems obvious to me they are obliged to rectify.. Time will tell..

However, design flaw or not and despite fact dealership should have clocked it, it is apparent this is down to a small area of neglect by the previous owner.. If you don't clean the nooks and crannies this is inevitable...

Selling garage arranging for me to take car into main dealer local to me to have rear arches re-sprayed and to assess a handful of other snags I've picked up on (steering query, lack of tension/ driver/ seatbelt not reeling in etc)...
