Rear light question

Ive lost count of the numbers of rear lights my dad has smashed on his 2004 car, keeps reversing into walls and posts on the shoot.

When I was fitting his latest OSR unit I noted that the side reflector strip in red had an electrical connection at the back which the car doesn't have on the loom.

So is this light part of a US spec with DRL or something? Can't say I've ever seen one lit up? Discovery 4 HSE

the american market specified having 'side' lights on the side...hence the new l405 front/rear lights bending around the sides.. ... - .- -.

Is there a bulb/bulb holder there too ? Does it work with power supplied ?

Fairly straight forward to connect up to ignition live feed on left hand rear of car to act as a DRL (see what I did with rear reflectors in wiki)

I've not had my rear light units out (yet) so wonder if they are there as standard on only on replacement units? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Mick, yours should have (09MY>) LED rear lights already... If yours are NAS spec you won't see any wiring for the side markers as they are LED's too and in the 09my> the LED's and wiring is all hidden... Whistle

The front headlights 06-09 do have the fitting for the side markers already there. the sidelight bulb holder fits it so if you managed to source a couple of these then you would just have to wire them in. was thinking of putting led's in the existing sidelights of mine to match the xenon headlights and the normal bulbs in the side markers so as not to bring up any faults or overload anything. any wiring would be inside the headlight unit then. '04 td6 se

If he's always backing into posts, I'd check the parking sensors and the rear view camera before worrying about NAS vs Euro lighting differences. Mr. Green Shocked Whistle
