Unlike most, my TPMS works fine!

Replacing my tyres soon - is there a battery in the 'wheel' part of the system? If so, what type?

From what I understand there is indeed a battery in the sensor in the wheel that lasts about 8 years. No idea on type and how to replace it but a good look on Ebay may help  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Decided to have a look. After some digging found that it's a coin cell, CR2450S, soldered to the board as you would expect.

is there a way of testing to see how much life is in the battery?
just wondering if that could forecast lifespan

The potting compound is reasonably soft, so you could probe down onto the two pads that the battery is soldered to and measure the voltage that way.

Next question: any way these lithium cells can be recharged without exploding? Anywhere I've looked says not. 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE Java Black

Agreed, provided that they self program, it makes sense to replace. The valve stems get corroded after a few years anyway. 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE Java Black

Mine reprogrammed themselves within about 7-8 miles.
4 brand new sensors. If your spare is monitored and you replace that sensor, I believe it has to go on as a road wheel to register it, before putting it back in the boot.

Having just done this....

Sensors are only good for 7 years.
Sealed units, you can replace valve stem apparently , but not Battery

The bloke on eBay sells set of 4 brand new at £31 buy it now, whatever you do, insist that he
Sends you the nuts!!! I had to nag him for a fortnight. Nuts are made of soft metal . Very hard to reuse existing ones.

You need the UK ones on 433 MHz frequency Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

My sensors arrived yesterday and were missing the nuts - I was thinking I'd reuse the old ones until I saw your post!

I have contacted the seller through ebay (probably the same chap as you!) and asked him to send me a set of nuts.

I've told him I need them for next Sat as I'm booked in for new tyres then, they had better get to me in time
