Front wipers don't park at bottom of screen

Hi everyone was driving the other day in rain and wipers front stopped working for spilt second then started working again however when I got home and switched wipers off they parked in the uppermost position on drivers side of windscreen, I've been told this is a common fault and it is actually the wiper motor knackered as it has a sensor built in for the park position of wipers at the bottom of screen. The wipers still work however just do not stop in correct position at bottom of screen Big Cry
I'm sure someone on here had similar problem before and got fixed at the dealer but was only a £20 fix so would that mean it is only needing plugged in to diagnostic computer to sort this problem,as it seems a bit expensive to have to replace wiper motor, any advice would be appreciated cheers Paul Big Cry Range rover hse

I had exactly the same problem (which cured itself on a couple of occasions) but then a few weeks later my wipers decided to just stop whenever they felt like it. I would definitely recommend that you try replacing the £6 relay first before moving on to the more expensive stuff.

Unfortunately I think your wiper motor is on the way out.

I had the same issue (albeit with a Mercedes). It ended up just being wear and tear on the internals of the motor. When I took the old motor out to see if it could be repaired there were loads of metal shavings where the moving parts had worn away.

On mine they had worn away so much that there were smooth parts where they should have been metal, so the system no longer stopped a cycle at the correct point.

Sorted - checked under the bonnet and you can see the motor and linkage quite easily behind the bulkhead on the drivers side.

Loosened the (13mm I think although I used grips) nut from the motor shaft, cycled the wipers which makes the motor stop in the home position then manually moved wiper linkage to home position and tightened nut back up.

Thinking about it yesterday I put new blades on so they may be a bit harder to drive and the nut on the shaft was quite loose - add that to the fact I cleared 1-2" of snow off the screen using the wipers this morning too so I suspect it has just slipped, motor operation seems perfectly smooth and stops in the same place each time.
