2006 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Chawton White
Select Neutral?

In the past couples of days, each time i start the car i get a message saying "select neutral", then the moment i drive off it will say "slow down". Then it goes away. Im thinking this message appears when the engine is running hot, but my temp is dead center and no signs of overheating. What could be causing this? BTW this is a 2003 FFRR 4.4V8. 06 FFRR HSE

Not sure if will help your prob but try putting vehicle in tow mode by removing the fuse etc then taking it out of toe mode see if that helps, Ive had this come up on me a few times on my 04 V8 // ...

On my 2006, you get this message when you have flicked the "low range" switch - it's asking you to select neutral and then it will switch into low range for you. If you flick the "low range" switch again, the message goes away ...

same here, i get that message when in low range, the neutral part is you have to select it to switch between low and high range, V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

I have exactly the same behaviour since I unplugged all fuses (to locate battery drain) a few days ago.

Normally means the hi low motor is defective! £1350+vat ouch!!!

A problem we are seeing more and more im afraid, the motor is not in high or low range completely hence the prompts on the dash... Sad

There is a thread on here somewhere about replacing the rheostat / circular resistor component within the tranfer motor. It was not a part that was available through land rover, but a member was getting some manufactured and was planning to sell them at a fraction of the quoted price for the full motor. I do not know the outcome, but it could be worth doing some digging to find the thread and see if he ever did get some manufactured. MY2010 TDV8 Vogue Ipanema Sand

From reading a bunch of threads on this subject, it seems a regular cycle between Hi and Low ratio is a good habit to get into - IIRC the problem with the rheostat is corrosion/fusing due to lack of movement! 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Mine did this when turning a left hand corner as one of the abs sensors was bust , the difference in wheel speedsmade the car think something was up and would try put thebox into low range.the new abs sensor cured it.
