Coolant level sensor

Gents,

I replaced the coolant level sensor a while ago but it still doesn't work properly. The old one looked slightly different from the new one with a short (2 mm) piece of metal sticking out. The new one didn't have the, it looked like it was fitted with a little cap underneath which the same piece of metal could be hiding. I didn't remove the "cap" when I installed, should I have ? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

this shows a coolant sensor on a 4.4 petrol, not what you have but could it be the same? [half way down the page ]

Excellent write up but not the sensor I mean.

I am talking about the one in the bottom of the expansion tank Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

You probably already know this but the level sensor also checks the SG of the coolant - I assume your mix is correct?

There was a little cap on the tip of the sensor. When the sensor blew out !!!! of the tank when the transmission oil cooler went, I looked it and pulled a tiny rubber cap off. Since then the sensor is working (with clean proper coolant that is of course). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
