Hi, this is my first post,
i have a 2003 td6 and the gearbox seems to work ok but it will not shift down in manual however it will shift up, the switches on the gear stick check out ok. also if i boot it to the floor it goes like stink untill about 75mph in 5th then i loose all power and if i stop then go again it revs but only creeps along for about 30 seconds then picks up as normal! any info would be great.

Thanks for the reply, Its fine if i accelerate slowly. when it loses speed it still revs hard but only goes slow its almost like the torque converter gives up then recovers! The kick down works fine as do all the other gearbox functions, gear changes in low box are a little harsh to say the least. as for keeping it I had my 4.6 for 10 years and hopefully this will do as well, i will look up the idd tool thanks. I'd love to agree with you but then we'd BOTH BE WRONG!!

It may be worth dumping the gearbox fluid and replacing, if nothing more than to see the colour and smell (plus its allways a good idea to replace the oil with nice fresh stuff).

LUC have been known to go but as far as im aware usually dont just slip, it usually causes a judder or no drive.

Mine does a similar thing when hoofing it uphill and tends to be on left hand bends. Full throttle it will drop power for what seems an eternity then kick back in. I have my gearbox rebuilt and it still does it. Funny thing is my old 300TDi Auto Disco would do the same thing at similar places.
I have no idea what causes it so try to drive around the issue.
Big fines over here if caught giving it welly over 100kph. If rumoured 1kph tolerance kicks in I will never be able to put my suspension in highway mode, legally

The kickdown and recovery issue sounds like the symptoms that my TD6 had prior to the fuel pump stopping - so worth getting the fuel pressure tested!

Also - have you checked the gearbox fluid level - whilst the engine is running with warm fluid at (from memory 35-40C) - a low level can cause all sorts of gear change issues?

Thanks for that VV. was it the under car pump or the in tank pump that was replaced on our TD6?

Adrian - I am pretty sure that it was the under the car pump - I just checked the invoice and it says pre-pompe (it was done in Switzerland) and my notes at the time say "low pressure fuel pump".

Have you tried tapping the pump with a hammer http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic13841.html (that might have saved me at the time)?
