Hi Guys,

Thinking about getting a mega miles AJV8 4.4. It's 204k miles, full history, one famliy owned, sounds like a very straight car, I would maybe consider LPG converting it, depending on how good condition it seems to be in. I would expect the conversion to pay for itself within a year.

The car is £7,500, it's a Vogue, standard spec, silver with blue/ cream leather.

Price is pretty high for that. As soon as you buy, it will practically be worthless when you come to sell if you keep it a few years. I would be looking at 6k for that, regardless of condition because 99% of people would never buy a vehicle with that mileage in this country.

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Your location is in Wallingford Oxfordshire and the car dealer is in Orpington Kent.
Any short term warranty issues which involve the dealer would be a nightmare to deal with.
At 204,000 mls you would need to see the complete history of the vehicle, not just the service history.
You would need to see what major components have been replaced and at what mileage etc.
The list can go on.

I would not pay more than the above but I would worry how much more life the non-replaced major components have got in them.

As Gaz has said above, its a bit over priced for someone trying to make a real quick buck.

If you can get the price down i wouldn't worry about any warranty as they will always say its wear and tear and all that tosh anyway. Just put the money to one side for the gearbox or engine.

If the major compnants have been replaced and it has been looked after you should get a few years out of it. I drive ambulances with >400k on the clock and if things have been replaced and serviced they can do 50000 hard miles again. before going back into workshops If it hasnt had any of the majors replaced i would not even think about it. There are plenty of 4.4 v8 for the same price with half the mileage.

When do you collect? I didn't sleep for a couple of nights before collecting mine!

As you said high miles can be much better, generally means the engine has spent more time at running temp and at a set speed as well.

Collect tomorrow, terrified now, but just did a quick search on ebay, cheapest 2005 completed on there went for £9,100, with 141k miles.

I just went on gut, and it just seemed like a good honest car, drove well, suspension fine, no fault lights etc.
