Hi Nazz welcome , In the past six years I have had two Full Fats and in that time the only thing that went wrong was a dead EAS compressor and I think I'm responsible for speeding its demise so relax it's not all doom and glom and waiting for something to go wrong , remember people tend to only post when something brakes no body comes on to a forum and says "all good nothing to write about " 2008 MY Supercharged

As you can see by my fleet listed below the latest is an 2003 L322 td6. Id heard about the potential problems with the gearbox and decided that because I got the car for such a stupid price if I indeed had to put a new gearbox in I would still be feeling well pleased with myself.

My general question to anyone out there is where can I buy a brand new new, not new old but new new GM5L40E gearbox.

One in Australia would be handy but anywhere would be Ok.

Hi Jim,

As I understand it you don't want to buy new new, but new reconditioned with the improved valve block - that is the weak spot with these boxes - and I think the factory never made them with the improved valve body - it's the aftermarket guys that sorted the problem.

Hi all as you can see this is my first post, though I have been looking around the forum for a couple of weeks, (some excellent information and helpful posters/members by the way). So I have gone and done it and purchased a 06 very nice td6 vogue, last week (well I think so). I mulled it over and over for weeks and weeks and finally caved in, after having two sleepless nights, prior to and after I brought it home, that’s never happened before! Main reason being I have a daily commute from the Fylde coast to the centre of Manchester, a circa 118 mile round trip daily to work, made up mostly of motorway driving, and my worries were the known issues and fuel consumption. I have done this commute for the past five years in an L200 pick up, me always using the “work car” while the wife drove the “good car” this due to my daily mileage and piling it on etc. So daily I have bounced along in the L200 at 70mph on the motorway, noting that all those German marques and white vans that fly past me I catch up later at the other end. The L200 also never let me down, which played on my mind and in a way I did enjoy the L200, I did have the “good car” remember, but I felt it was time for a change and a bit more comfort. So I scowered the forum taking it all in and wondering if I’m doing the right thing, what if, what if, what the hell I found a very nice example owned by a lovely genuine couple with 60k on the clock and purchased it. Then the inevitable, a new poster posts on the forum, and asks, the dreaded question, “can anyone tell me what to look for and what are the issues with a FFRR”!!! – No no don’t ask that. A regular forum poster responds and lists the issues/problems with a FFRR, I read the reply, thinking that’s not a list of issues and problems, it’s a build sheet for a FFRR! Two more sleepless nights. So my biggest concern was the known issues and fuel costs, on the issues side I have a good Indie who served his time initially on land rovers, though not a land rover indie, but I suppose most things are similar car to car (no association by the way). As I said and although I’m not settled into my daily routine just yet, the fuel usage is not as bad as I was expecting though not brilliant. I haven’t touched the magic 30 plus mpg on the on board like some, but have seen 29.6 and it’s not all bad as I do get a mileage allowance through work, which contributes to the fuel cost. So now I glide elegantly along at 70mph (still) on the motorway in the FFRR, difference though being that in the L200 - 70mph felt like 90mph, and in the FFRR 70mph feels like 40mph! So restraint may be difficult, and in my near two weeks of ownership all is as it should be, well nearly but I will post some questions in the relevant section, don’t want to get told off on my first day! I’m just hoping I can glide elegantly along for the next five years but time will tell. My biggest regret is I left it so long, I can’t believe what I have been missing!

On that run coming into manc im guessing you come down the 61?

If so stick to 60, it doesn't add that much time and you will see the MPG go over 30

Hi all, my first post so I thought it had better be here! I'm not currently a FFRR owner, however it's only a matter of time before I start seriously looking. I've had a Disco 2 for the last couple of years but it's maybe time to move up to something with a bit more comfort(said the Mrs..) I've been a visitor here for a while but thought I'd better join as I get closer to a search. When the time comes I'll be posting that I'm looking as I'd rather buy a known car from an enthusiast than some cowboy on ebay! Cheers, Nick

Hi all I'm going to test drive a FFRR 2004 4.4 Vogue tomorrow due to reading about 1000 pages of comments on here in the last week.
I was originally going to get a TD6 but will only be doing about 4000 miles a year in it so I've gone for the biggy.

If all goes well tomorrow I will be joining the rest of you FF owners in the pleasures of a car I have dreamed of owning since my dad told me that the RR was the best car in the world back in da 70's. If not then I keep looking till I find the right one.
