Recovered to dealer

My FFRR was recovered to the dealer today for a burnt out alternator. Light came on about a mile from the office or so and that was that. Burning smell when I got out to confirm. LR Assistance came out quickly and put her on a low loader.

Not impressed with the loan car of an Insignia and given this is the 4th call out since late November, I am a very unhappy LR owner. The dealer seems to do a very good job, LR assistance a good job, but starting to feel like I am waiting for the next thing all of the time.

Sorry to hear that seems fairly common on the 07's. Once it fixed should be sorted as it one of the main things that can go wrong keep the faith Thumbs Up Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

The last car I had that was this un-predictable was TVR which is not much of a compliment as I owned the factory record for 2 engines in 11 days. Shocked

When the FF is working, it is great, but EGR faults which the dealer cannot replicate, noisy FBH, faulty alternator, battery fault (which in hindsight may be connected to the alternator going) alomg with some leaky alloys are trying my patience in a luxury car.

Will see what they say in the next few days. 2011 Stornaway Grey 5.0SC Autobiography

You'll get used to stuff going wrong if you keep it, sorry to say. Mine has had over just 12 months and 12,000 miles

Front suspension leg
Bushes on front & rear
both front drop links
both front bottom arms
rear tailgate lock
front drive shafts
CD player
Viscous fan
Coolant pump
steering column motor
rear wiper motor
rocker cover gaskets
etc etc etc

This list goes on and on. Every time I drive it the dashboard makes a bong and gives one error or another, at the moment it needs a new transfer box motor & another new rear wiper motor. It's had a knocking from the front suspension from the first month of ownership which neither independent garages or the two main dealers I take it to can find.

I'm looking to get shut of it at the moment before it costs any more money. Looking for something a lot more reliable probably a Lexus or something similar. Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue

Wow, that is pretty bad. Guess that I am lucky compared to some of you guys. The A/C packed in completely (probably because it had not moved for 2 whole years the seals dried and the system leaked), two front struts (the right front bag major cracks due to wear) and the rear calipers (one seized). Recently replaced front wheel bearings, two rubbers on the front suspension arms, front discs and pads but that is normal wear these days I think (had it on several cars).

Replacing the fuel filter and pump unit was my choice (brand new pump unit for 50 GBP thanks to KP being very sharp on Ebay).

Hopefully your cars get sorted quickly and after this only "normal" wear type stuff ! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

They still have the car, but am expecting an update tomorrow.

My worry is mainly to do with the long term proposition. If these things can be fixed and I get a few months of trouble free motoring, I will be starting to trust again, but can't live with fundamental unreliability. 2011 Stornaway Grey 5.0SC Autobiography

the alternator is a known weak spot, see recent thread. 2007 cars seem particularly prone, it is the diode pack in the unit which fails not the actual alternator itself.

im getting used to the fact that there will always be a niggly thing or two to fix. so far with mine its had a fair old list of bits done over the past 12 months. But as yet nothing has stopped me driving it.

so far:
new heater control pack
new fhb
new NS rear calliper
new front headlamp
reseal of transfer box
repaint of inner rear arches.

Im expecting the alternator to go in the next 12 months......so will be taking out the dealer warranty offered to me for £569. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

you lads have been very unlucky i would say, there not all like that. i had my td6 for 3 years in feb and the only thing to give trouble was the gearbox and month or so ago, other than that its been trouble free motoring even towing my 27ft plastic palace every year to different locations. stick with it, when you get it right there's nothing more rewarding than driving a ff.
